Great Litter!

I've recently decided to go non toxic in my home and one of the first things I swapped out was my cat's litter and litter box.
The smell of this litter is rather strange, but I can only smell the litter itself when I'm cleaning it.
My cat was curious about her new litter and litter box, but used it without any problem.
Her litter box is in my bedroom (not ideal I know, but she's very skittish and does not trust anyone in the house except for me), therefore I HAVE to have a good litter that masks odors. Trust me, I have been woken up by the stench from the litter box before. However, with this litter, I do not smell anything when she uses it. And come on $33 for 40 POUNDS of it?? You cannot beat that.
Yes, it does track a good bit, but so does every other litter that I've ever tried, including "low track" ones.
The litter also clumps and scoops up really well. So with that being said, this litter is 100% worth it, and I will be recommending it to all of my cat loving friends.
AND it's non toxic?? WIN!

I am so, so happy that I took a chance and tried this litter! I absolutely love this, and my picky kitty took to it right away. I have two litter boxes, so at first tried this half and half with our other litter that is corn based. I do like that litter and Kitty does too, but I wanted to see if there was anything a bit better for odor control. I looked at a ton of options and was intrigued about this one. First off, the only odor is a pleasant kind of woodsy natural scent. The granules are comfortable in my hand, so is comfortable for kitty's feet. I like the dark color too-- it reminds me of the black sand beaches in Hawaii. Once I had introduced it by combining the two litters without issue, I put the Naturally Fresh cat litter in one box in my laundry room and kept the one with the original corn litter in the bedroom ensuite just in case Kitty decided against this new variety. I usually clean the boxes daily and when my nose tells me a stink bomb is present and needs to be removed. The one in the bathroom was consistently used, and after two weeks I had to completely change out the litter. I wasn't really checking the other box because there was no odor, which I would have noticed since I'd been doing laundry every other day. I actually thought Kitty hadn't been using that box with the Naturally Fresh walnut litter. I decided I should clean out that box and was going to replace all the litter with the original brand, and to my surprise Kitty HAD been using that box, which was actually quite full-- but still no odor! That was an awesome surprise! So, I just scooped out the box and refreshed it with the Naturally Fresh. Once all the corn litter is gone, I'll use this litter exclusively. I'm thrilled at how well it handles odors, and I'm giving it bonus points for it being flushable! I plan to get automatic litter boxes sometime soon, so I'll be interested to see how this does with the new boxes I get. I'm looking at the PETKIT, PETSNOWY, Popur and Catlink automatic self cleaning boxes-- I'm getting a new kitten this week so want to make life a bit easier. I've had back surgery, so having to clean litter boxes a minimum of twice daily isn't ideal for me. I'll review the new boxes after a fair trial period so others can make informed choices too.
Amazing Product!

I absolutely cannot believe the difference this cat litter makes. I had been using Arm & Hammer Glide with the addition of half a cup of baking soda every day. (Yes, Really!) I was buying the industrial size box every month. That wouldn't have been so bad if it worked better for longer. So, I wound up cleaning the litter boxes three times a day and still having my nose assaulted. Cats are supposed to be so easy, so much less demanding than dogs. They might get along fine for a couple days on their own, but I was chained to their litter box just to try and keep my entire house from stinking. I thought my next step was going to be a kitty door with an outside totally enclosed play yard to keep the hawks and coyotes at bay. These two kitties were getting mighty expensive. There had to be a better way. So, I started digging.
It took two days of searching on Amazon and reading reviews before I decided to try Naturally Fresh Blue. When it arrived I read the bag and wondered. Opened the bag and wondered some more. How can this stuff make much difference. I put some in the litter boxes, basically top dressing the Arm & Hammer Glide and I was instantly shocked. I could no longer even smell the scent of the litter! What??? How can that be? I had only put a scoop of this Naturally Fresh Blue on top of the other, just enough to barely cover the surface.
I have to admit that it looked kind of strange, almost like I'd covered the pan with coffee grounds. I could live with that, but what about the cats? Their first reaction was, "What the heck is this stuff?" Then it was, "Hey, I've gotta go!" They both had to give it a try within five minutes. Evidently they weren't totally sold on the idea the first couple days as it looked so different. They would peer into one litter box and then the other. "Yup, that strange stuff is still there..." Then they'd decide that nature was really calling and make use of it. So, we'll just say they were a little hesitant at first. As for me, I was sold immediately. They would use it (check that box) and all hint of there even being litter boxes was totally gone (double check that box).
I'm one of those people who scoop the litter boxes once a day. It's just part of my routine. But here's the shocker: When I open the sack that contains even a weeks worth of kitty poop and pee scoopings, there is still absolutely no stink or odor at all! I kid you not! Then consider the fact that I can simply dump it into my flower garden compost without having that mixture turn into a toxic gob of clay. That is a definite positive point as well. If you dump clay litter, even spreading it out over a large area two things happen. 1. You are not helping the composition of the soil so you're creating an ecological desert - even in sandy soils. 2. You are making the ants very happy. If you want to have an ant farm, go for it. If you're not happy having ant hills springing up everywhere, it's NOT the thing to do.
So, the bottom line is Naturally Fresh Blue has met or exceeded all my wildest dreams of what cat litter should be. If you're sitting on the fence about trying a different, more home and planet friendly litter, it's time to take the plunge. This stuff is a game changer. The honest truth is that it is as perfect a product as cat litter can possibly be. I'm so glad I took the time, read the reviews and took the chance to try something truly, unbelievably different.

honest (no drama) review - I have two persian cats

Tracking: I adopted two cats and had no idea how much litter tracked. I have yet to find one that doesn't. I don't feel a zero tracking litter is even possible. I tried pine pellets, but one of my cats is declawed (by previous owner) and I found he was willing to use the other two boxes where I had a sawdust-type litter and this walnut litter. I noticed he preferred the walnut litter and stopped using the other two completely. Same goes for my second cat. The pine pellets were large and I'd find a few outside of the litter box but never found them in my bed. I've found that if I keep the bottom of my cats paws scissored (they have very long hairy paws) they track less. I can't get either of them to use a top entry box. That would definately help. This stuff tracks and tracks and tracks. I find it everywhere. But I've found that to be true with all other litters so I remind myself that this is safe for them, sustainable, and compostable so it will remain my first choice.
Dust: I've used so many different litters over my lifetime. They are all dusty. All of them. I don't find it "covers" anything anymore than regular 'ol dust in my house. I give everything a quick swipe every couple of days in the bathroom and move on with my life. No dust drama. The reviews that describe staining...it's not staining - its dust. If you have a cat with white or light-colored paws you will see the earthy brown dust on their paws after they visit the loo. But they walk it off, rub it on your pillow, or clean it off themselves. Consider that it is a SAFE dust for them to consume and that is all you really need to know. My kitty with white paws has OCD so I only notice it occasionally to never. He hasn't ever been stained by the walnut litter. I do find this litter to be very dusty in one bag and then not so much in another. It's a natural product so that has to be expected. It wasn't created in a lab and won't be perfectly the same every time.
Odor: My declawed kitty does not cover his poo so it's "smelly" with any litter I use. Scoop the poo right away people. Right away. Don't leave it in the box. Crack a window if you can. Problem solved. For the record my other cat covers her poo and it does a decent job. If your cats poo is that offensive then its the food or a GI issue and not the litter. Just sayin. As for the litter itself, it has an earthy scent that I actually kind of like and it is SAFE for my cats. As for urine odor, if it's extremely offensive then its diet or dehydration or both. Research this and make sure your cat's urine is what it should be and it won't smell. Easiest thing to do is to scoop the box. Problem solved. I've had friends tell me they would not even know I have cats if I didn't tell them but they do smell my spaniel dog when she is due for a bath. Can't win 'em all.
Clumping: I think it clumps quite well but have noticed that you need a deep layer for it to clump extremely well. I don't use a deep layer because I like to wash the boxes and completely switch out the litter every one to two weeks and don't want to waste too much. I tilt the box to scrape the clump from the bottom of the box. I scoop boxes outdoors to reduce airborne dust and odors indoors. This is done right next to my pet waste compost bin so scraping the bottom of the box isn't an issue. I'd rather have fresh litter and scrape the bottom of the box then a thick layer of smelly used litter and waste a ton when I have to toss it. If your cat(s) don't mind 2-3 inches of litter and you don't mind wasting money throwing it all out, then yes it will clump very well for you. The best clumping litter I have ever used was a new one a celebrity cat guy endorses. I had to stop using it because it formed cement-like balls on the bums of my persians. But seriously it clumped like cement. I also reviewed it.
Sustainability and disposal: I lumped these together because it is so important! Its crushed walnut shells. Renewable and doesn't do any harm at all. It could only be better if it were from organic farming/harvesting methods. Which is why I didn't give it five stars. Its entirely compostable. I compost our litter, cat poo and dog poo. Yes this is safe to do and recommended by the USDA. Do your own research on composting. Our pet waste never goes in landfills.
Longhaired cats: It sticks to them. It sticks to their bums. It sticks to their paws. It gets in their coats. I find that I can pick it out or brush it out. It does bother me. I like a clean house and finding this stuff everywhere is really uncool. They can't help it. So I remind myself that I am so grateful that they actually use the box in the first place and get over myself. I plan to get a robot vac to assist my overworked broom. If you have shorthair cats you may not even notice or be too chill to care. I plan to try the pelleted version of this litter next but I expect my declawed cat will not use it. I may put the pelleted version in the box upstairs so that I may find less of it in my bed. Only one of my cats uses that box so it would be okay to put the pellets here.
I love this litter. I would love for it to track less and to be less dusty but its other attributes outweigh those minor inconvenieces so I will continue to use this litter until something better comes along. It's a great litter that keeps my cats safe, they will actually use it, and it alligns with my evironmental moral compass. 4 stars now but if they made it organic I'd give it 5.

Hands down the best litter I've used.

I've tried about every type of litter on the market with 2 things in mind: how well it controls odor and how environmentally friendly it is. This hit the spot on both points, from my understanding this litter is made using food waste meaning theres no toxic mining, questionable chemicals or big environmental impact. I use this in my litter robot and it works great, absorbs urine and clumps well for each scooping or shifting, the only issues I have from time to time is that it will sometimes cake onto the bottom but that also happened with most other types of litter too. It still tracks but no worse than any other litter. It does a pretty good job with odor control, I do add arm & hammer scent crystals which also helps. 1 large bag of this usually lasts atleast 2-3 months with my 2 cats. The only other litter I even feel comfortable using anymore is corn cob and while it's usually a but cheaper than walnut shell this definitely works a bit better.
