Not suitable for cutting welding cable

These cutters do not work well with stranded wires, especially the fine strands of welding wire. The problem is that the blades have been protected with a coating (to prevent rust, I assume). While the blades may have been sharp before the coating, they are not sharp with the coating. The moment the coating wears away from the cutting edge, it is replaced by a gap, and the strands begin to bend around the blade edge instead of being cut. The gap will persist because the coating remains on both ends of the cutting edges, preventing the blades from meeting where the cut is happening. I think this could be fixed if you removed the blades and removed the coating on the flat sides of each blade. This would have to be done with a flat sharpening stone.

Only used for a few cuts so far. Looks like it will last a while as I don't cut a lot of big cable. Make sure you don't use to cut support wire / bare nuetral cable on aluminum overhead service drops. There's a steel one inside the bunch and it will ruin blade. Made that mistake once"¦
