For over two weeks, I tried every home remedies to get rid of the gnats that was been living in our main bathroom. I decided to give this a go, there were a mixture of good and not so great reviews but I was getting desperate. I poured some of the liquid in the drain, and let it sit overnight. The next morning, I poured hot water into the sink and tub. The next week days, I noticed less gnats. I decided to pour more hot water into the drain. By the time I realized it, our bathroom is gnat free!!! It took some time but definitely worth the money and wait.
It works!

I had a sudden fruit fly problem. I bought everything from the plug in traps to zappers that scared me every time a bug was destroyed. Two days of using this in my drains and no sign of fruit flies and no anxiety triggered bug zapping.
Ended up working

What I did to eliminate my drain fly infestation and product review

I'd been dealing with a drain fly infestation for months and was at my wits end. Was killing 20-40 each day by hand or more. Tried all kinds of things to get rid of them - bug spray, lining my windows with bug spray, baking soda and vinegar down the drains, bug killer down the drains, sticky paper, and several other methods you've probably read about online. I even used one of those hand-held electric racket zappers to swipe at them which actually made hunting them down kind of fun. ZAP!
The product: I used this pleasant smelling goo a few times as instructed and it seems to have taken care of much of the problem. After applying it to my shower drain and bathroom sink, the leftover gel around the drains had a bunch of drain fly carcasses in it the next day. I did the same thing over a period of about a week and more carcasses would appear each time. I have effectively eliminated a drain fly infestation which was driving me mad. Very cool!
Keep in mind there were other tactics I employed because I wanted to be thorough and make sure these pests were GONE. So here are some suggestions which I hadn't seen listed on any of the "how to kill drain flies" sites. Adapt and use these in addition to using the gel and your problem will be no more.
1) It seems drain flies LOVE bathroom towels, especially ones left up to dry. I would pick up my towel and three or four would immediately fly off of it. So I removed the towel from the bathroom when done with it and place it in my dryer where it was inaccessible. I think they use these to breed or nest. Yuck. You can replace the towels again once the flies have been eliminated.
2) Remove bath mat, especially if made of cloth or wool. I think they breed there, too.
3) Remove any cloth shower curtains (which can get very damp). Basically, remove anything that gets wet and collects human skin cells or byproducts.
4) Flush out your jacuzzi if you have one. Jacuzzis have a lot of pipes which collect a lot of gunk just like your drain does. When I cleaned it out, a ton of unsightly organic effluvium came out, including a ton of fly carcasses. Blech! There are videos on Youtube showing how to do this.
5) Put sticky paper on the window sills. This caught a TON of stray drain flies and other pests stuck between the window and outside.
6) This is a bit more hardcore, but you may want to try buying a bug zapper and covering the windows in your living space and leave it on over night. Drain flies are attracted to light and will try to escape through your windows. When you block them out and provide only one source of light, they will be attracted to it. This seemed to help me a little bit. It captured and killed some of them but not as many as I'd hoped.
7) Vacuum the heck out of your place. I'm not an expert but it seems they like our "leftovers", as in skin cells, dust and other elements produced by indirect human waste. If anything, you'll have a nice clean environment to live in.
8) De-clutter any area where they seem to be thriving. This could help expose breeding points. The bathroom was my target as this was where most of them were congregating. I made it uninhabitable for them by stripping it bare.
9) If you have a spider, she is your best friend. I had one who was systematically capturing and eating any stray drain flies. My own personal serial killer for hire. Spider caught more of these pests than my bug zapper. I must have counted around 40 carcasses! Do not kill any spiders. They feast on these critters. Keep them around! They are literally a secret weapon which costs you nothing, except maybe a few creepy crawly dreams.
I think most of the problem was addressed by the drain gel, probably 90% of the issue. Could be more or less for you. But the chances of eliminating the problem will increase if you follow the steps above.
Good luck with it!

It works best as part of an organized plan

I have had a worsening fruit fly problem in my home for the last several months. Two of my bathrooms had been taken over by fruit flies, and my kitchen was becoming involved as well. I purchased this liquid as part of a plan to rid my house of drain and fruit flies.
I purchased a gallon, and I advise you to do so as well because you will definitely use it, as even with one sink, you will need repeated applications for it to do the job, then to maintain it to prevent return of the flies.
Step one is to obtain drain covers if the drains are not covered, as in my house. I purchased drain covers that allow water to drain out of the sink. This is because when you do step two, which is to place 4 to 8 ounces down the drain, what flies are living in the drains will want to come up. In the sinks with relief drains, I've completely blocked the relief drains so that the flies have no escape.
Last, you have to have an active air attack plan to kill the flies that are remaining in the air in the involved rooms. I used fly killer and even Windex, which seems to knock the flies out of the air and allows me to kill them.
Using this plan, I was able to reduce the number of drain flies by at least 90% within a few days.
Keeping fruit/drain flies away requires continued management. The drains must be kept clean with this liquid so that the drain flies do not reestablish themselves. Further, any areas in the involved rooms that have standing water must be cleaned of water, and cleaned in general, in order for the flies not to be attracted to anything.
I have just purchased a 2nd gallon, because I plan to maintain all of the drains regularly.
Strongly recommend!
