I love this product
Kimberly Koltcz✓ Verified Purchase•February 21, 2024
I use this a lot to make various vegan dishes. I have Celiac's so I like that it's an gluten free option as I can't do many plant based "meat" products. Some of my favorite things to do is make Thanksliving "turkey" medallions with holiday seasonings in water used to reconstitute them or seasoning them up to make Rubens. They work really really well!
Easy, soaks up any flavor, but a little chewy

The plainness is perfect to allow you to create whatever flavor profile you need for your dish. Very easy to prep, blends into a range of dishes. The only thing is that it ends up a bit on the chewy side, but compared to many other alternatives, it's a good option.
Love it

I love this product. It's so versatile, so delicious. But if you buy it, keep in mind that this is one of those things that will taste based on how you season or marinade it. I've been vegan for many years now, but I used to be a meat eater before, so I marinate/season this TVP the same way I did with chicken/beef.

Here's how I prep them-
80 g tvp
240 g (1 cup) water
2 bullion cubes
1/4 tsp msg (can probably sub out with soy sauce or something)
onion powder
garlic powder
Microwave the above in a bowl for 4-5 minutes.
Heat up skillet with oil and cook until browned on both sides. SO delicious and versatile! Serves 3-2 people.
I microwave extra and store it in the fridge for up to a few days, then pan fry it right before serving. I usually have it with broccoli, sometimes with general tsao sauce, also had it a couple times with bbq sauce in a sandwich. Adjust the sodium you add in the first step if you plan on adding sauce.

Reconstitute in Broth and Seasoning!

Although I am not vegetarian, I am trying to eat less meat and ran across this product when doing a general search for meat substitutes. I like this product a lot and will order it again when I run out. It has a good texture and I use it in everything from slow cooker recipes to burritos and stir fry. It requires no special storage and the long shelf life is good for folks that cook for one person most of the time. My one caveat is that if you use this product, reconstitute it in broth with salt and pepper and whatever seasoning that is appropriate for what ever you are going to use it in because it is very, very bland. The upside to this is that in things like slow cooker dishes it takes on the flavors of the other ingredients.
