Could Be A Good Buy
Dr Betty Schueler✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 7, 2023
I was lucky enough to be looking at colored pencils when I saw that this set was on sale for about $6. I don't need mor pencils but I couldn't resist 24 pencils for $6 on the off chance they might be decent pencils. I'm forever running low, on greens and blues, so I figured I had little to lose with purchasing this set.

It turns out it is a decent set of pencils--especially for youngsters and beginning colorists. It has a thick, soft core, which isn't easy to break, as I found out when I knocked three of them onto the hard floor. They have a round barrel which I had no problems holding even with my wonky hands.

The pencils come pre-sharpened but they don't really have a fine point so you will have to do a little sharpening if you are doing detailed work. They covered areas fairly quickly and my picture shows the depth of color produced using plain copier paper. I used all the colors, included in the set, to color this design.

The best sharpener to use, with pencils like these, is a heavy duty, steel helical blade sharpener for pencils with 8mm diameter. While you can use a hand sharpener, an electrical one will make keeping your points sharp a lot easier.

The design is from Drawing Dimensional Forms, by Miss Betsi, on YouTube. It offered large and tiny areas to cover so it was a good design to test how precise I could color using these pencils. I found I was able to do it just as well as with far more expensive colored pencils.

The one thing I can't say, with any certainty, is whether these pencils are a good buy for the money. Prang makes a 72-pencil set for around $6, and a number of well-known companies sell 24-color sets for less than the $15.00 Amazon is currently listing. So the best I can say is that it depends on what is available, from competitors for the same amount of money.
Pretty Colors

These are so pretty and my daughter loves the variety of colors. Better than buying the 10 or 12 pack in the stores. The case they come in is nice. These would be a great gift for a birthday for your child's friend who loves to color or draw. Or even a great gift for an adult who loves to color the adult coloring books.
gifted for someone that will be incapacitated for a while.

They are nicely packaged, fair priced and definitely better made that the well know kiddie pencils.
Perfect for a works gift back to someone that will be undergoing treatment for a while, along with adult coloring books.

Good Value

Just received today (24 pack, have never needed more than that) and this after 1st trial. For the price, I think it's a surprisingly good value. Colors are bright, goes on smooth, blends okay, color range is good (but then, you blend your own specific combinations). The feel is "slippery". I'm used to pencils w a little more resistance and feel. Definitely requires paper w some tooth. Smooth paper, not so good. My only big negative is I can't find an option to purchase individual pencils when they wear down. Prismacolor has always been my medium of choice and they have that option. Would I recommend these... yes. Will I buy again... will see.
