The compression nut on my pipe was right up against the tile that had probably been added later. There was no clearance behind the nut, none. This tool needs none. I have no doubt it will last a lifetime. If you think the two claws are used to remove the compression nut and ring you would be wrong. Watch the Manufacturer's Video. So very glad I didn't pay 5X for the "other" beastie crows-foot looking thing that would not have worked without clearance behind the nut. Besides, I don't see how this $12 tool can fail.

This tool works flawlessly, saves me from the hassle of damaging pipes and the time of struggling to get old, corroded compression rings off. Every DIYer that has replaced any home copper fitting has had to deal with a stuck compression ring. Pliers/vise grips risk crimping the pipe, one slip with a dremel cutting wheel and you'll nick the pipe. Trying to use a typical valve-puller requires that you struggle to keep the 'arms' engaged on the nut. The threaded adapter on this Superior puller lets you screw directly on to the nut. There is nothing to squeeze, nothing to slip. I used it on a tightly squeezed fifteen year-old fitting, and the compression ring came right off, leaving a smooth pipe surface for the new fitting. And the old ring popped right off of the adapter. GREAT tool.

I replaced 5 angle stops/shut-off valves along with compression rings and water supply hoses in my house with this tool in March 2021 and the compression rings/ferrules came off very easily. My house was built in 1980 and the compression rings were the originals. I'm not the original owner of the house, but I could tell that the shut-off valves had been replaced at some time, but the compression rings had not. I was skeptical about this tool at first glance, but for the price I thought it was worth a try. I'm so glad I bought it. Yes, there are similar tools out there, however this one had great reviews and the best price. It certainly saved me from the frustration of having to fight to get the compression rings off. Especially when you're working behind a toilet or underneath a sink and can't hardly move your arms or large tools. I watched a few videos on how to use it and figured I could do it too. It worked just like in the videos and that's what a tool should do. After the shut-off valve is removed, it literally takes less than one minute to remove the compression ring with this tool. Superior Tool Company said it would and it certainly did. A great tool at a very affordable price. Yes, you can still teach old dogs new tricks. Take care.
