I had a rental car for a road trip that didn't have a roof rack or rails so I ordered these at the last minute to hold my rooftop bag carrier. NY to FL round trip, and not one incident! These held fast the entire trip. Decent quality. Durable. They come with their own case. I'd recommend!

Good product. Did not have a negative thing to say about it. Had to buy them separately for another rooftop cargo bag that stated it came with them and did not. I researched and found this product. They worked just like they said they would with the instructions it came with and it was easy to install.

The first thing I noticed was the way it's supposed to be attached to the top of the vehicle. The bag is a wedge shape, more or less, and it makes sense that the bag would mount with the lower end up front so it's more aerodynamic. However, in the included instruction sheet, it specifically tells you to mount the NON-zipper side in the front, which on this bag is the taller, less aerodynamic end of the wedge shape of the bag. I suppose they want you to keep the zipper and the flap that covers it in the rear to prevent the flap from catching window and coming open, but this kinda happens anyway once you secure the bag and the front end of the bag flattens out, raising the flap (there is velcro, but not along the entire flap) and allowing water to get at the zipper--and yes, when it rained on our most recent trip, our stuff got a bit wet up front. Someone should really look into this and either update the instruction sheet or better yet, alter the product so the lower side has no zipper on its face and is still up front.

Based on the provided product info, we bought the largest-size, most-expensive one which claims all over the place that it's actually waterproof compared to the lower-priced, smaller models. These 'lesser' versions all mentioned water resistance to a point but no promises; this 21 cu ft one we bought went very well out of its way to suggest it has waterproofing features and improvements and is "completely waterproof"...which it clearly is not.

Despite the instructions, we went ahead and mounted it shorter-end, zipper-side to the front--as it's shown in every picture on Amazon, for every model--for aerodynamics, and yep, stuff got wet anyway. It DID save us space in the vehicle and I suppose if your travel is rain-free it should be fine. There's no lock, and it's just a canvas bag that could easily be cut open, so be careful where you leave it. Also, it's nearly impossible to get this folded back into its bag when you're done with it. And while it secured to the car just fine, we did have to adjust where it sat front-to-back to ensure the clips would be in the right place to be able to use the door frames (rack-less install).

The larger buckles for securing the bag sides to itself after zipping initially worried me, but they did not come apart. The included short loop straps fabric felt a bit thin & flimsy but held. I did buy an extra pack of these straps "just in case", but didn't need them. Keeping them for future trips, tho, just in case. We used all 6 of the included loop straps. Not sure if we could have gotten away with just four as depicted in product photos; it was very windy at times on the interstate and I felt better with all 6 instead of just 4. Sadly, they only give you two long straps to secure the bag through the hook straps across the vehicle, but 3 pairs of the actual hook straps. Including one more long strap would be a really good idea. We used the wider center straps on each side of the bag to run through the 5th andd 6th loop straps for more wind security. Make sure you wrap the strap ends well to prevent them from flapping in the wind and screwing up your paint--or worse--over time.

The included non-slip underlay mat was a helpful add, and glad it was included. We did not notice any damage to the internal coating of the bag after our trip, but I suspect you would want to keep pointy objects away from it. I am hoping this coating does not come loose and flake away over time. It was easy to wipe out small amounts of water after our bags were removed. I imagine pinholes could easily be patched on the inside with a basic patching kit.

All that said, in the end, the price was right emough, and we'd recommend it with caveats mentioned. For us, it was worth the $70 we paid vs. renting a larger vehicle, no question. Just a couple odd design decisions, some very minor gripes--but most of all just kinda wish things put inside stayed a little drier in wetter weather. Things were not soaked, so it's not awful, but it was not a dry experience. I would not put anything sensitive to water in this bag for a longer trip where I wasn't sure it would rain or not. I do plan to slather the exterior with a waterproofing spray before our next trip.

It's relatively inexpensive enough, imo, that if this one only lasted a handful of trips, I'd probably just buy another one.
