Key features

  • WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER: The TOSOT Dehumidifier is perfect for whole basements, small house, large-sized rooms up to 4, 500 Sq. Ft. In one day you can remove up to 9 gallons(70 pints 2012 DOE Standard) of moisture from your home. With the addition of an internal pump you can drain water automatically using the included drainage hose in any direction-- up, down, or around-- up to 15 feet away from the dehumidifier.
  • BASEMENT DEHUMIDIFIER: By removing excess moisture from your home, you will create a more comfortable environment for your family. Excess humidity can also increase the lifespan of your furniture, fabric, and other material possessions; things such as musical instruments, books, photographs, as well as shoes and clothing items.
  • ENERGY STAR RATED: We don't have to all become tree-hugging hippies to agree on climate change (it's real) but one thing we can all agree on is the sweet relief of saving a few bucks on your monthly energy bills, am I right? Energy Star-rated appliances are not just better for the environment, but also for your wallet.
  • QUIET OPERATION: You don't always see it... but that's the point. A peak sound level of 48 decibels means you'll hardly notice the dehumidifier is running. For comparison, 50 decibels is about as loud as a secluded suburban street or a normal conversation at home, so you will never have to choose conversation over comfort again.
  • POWER OUTAGE RESTART: If you experience a power outage due to a storm, you do not want to have to go around resetting all of your appliances and electronic devices. TOSOT dehumidifiers will revert back to their previous settings once power is restored, giving you one less thing to worry about after you get back on the grid.

Looks nice, fairly quiet, works well for an NYC apartment.

Volume
I've had this for today months. It's energy efficient and quiet on medium and low settings. On high it's about as loud as my AC on low. At about 3 feet away it measures at 63-67db. It's really not much different than the sound of a good quality fan in my observation.

Performance
It's 90% humidity outside at 71F today at sea level. The unit has my bedroom at 35% after about 3 hours of continuous use today. My bedroom is 12'x18'. Typically I have it running 24/7. At this temperature and humidity level I would have to empty the tank once per day. I would suggest emptying thre tank before you sleep so as not to be woken by the full alarm which is high pitched and loud.

Notes.
The water tank has a fold down handle attached inside of the tank. It seems sturdy enough for occasional use but with regular use I would suggest using the handle only to carry the water tank to wherever you decide to dump the water and not hold onto the handle while you're dumping the water. The joints that connect the handle to the tank cover don't look like they could handle the torque forced on them for long --so hold the tank by the bottom and sides if it's full.

I only use this in the bedroom and it works to my satisfaction. I'm sure it would be adequate for an entire 800 sqf apartment in less humid locations (or higher altitude). However, if you live near the water or on an island you might have to get multiple units or a larger one if you're looking to get to 20% humidity. So far I've only been able to get to 20% when the humidity level outside was at about 50% which is rare for NYC summers. I'll keep you apprised of any updates.

On the highest fan setting it DOES put out warm-hot air but if you lower the fan setting, that brings exhausted air down to cooler than room temperature.

I hope this review is helpful.
Cheers!
Now this thing really works.

I have a pretty large basement with serious moisture problems. On day 1 of running this thing it lower the humidity in the whole basement with ease. Also, the pump makes a huge difference. Easy to install and never have to worry about emptying it.
Received the Best of the Reviews I Read

Wow did I have a hard time choosing a dehu with the wide range of reviews:

1. Packaging - 5 Stars - I was concerned about the negative reviews from customers who received damaged units. Mine was shipping in a box within a box, so it was received in perfect condition.

2. Quietness - 5 Stars - The reviews I read about the noise level being compared to a box fan are correct except that the pitch is a little higher (the pitch is closer to an in-window air conditioning unit). The noise levels are similar to my box fan at low, medium, and high respectively; however the noise is heard a bit further due to the noise pitch of this unit being higher, but normal conversation would be fine at all fan speeds.

3. Hygrometer - 5 stars - I was concerned about the reviews I read about the hygrometer being 25% off. However, I wasn't too concerned about this feature since it is measuring the air around the unit which has had the moisture removed. I don't know if there were unit modifications, but my unit reads 45% humidity and my hygrometer 10 feet away reads 46%.

4. East of Use - 5 stars - This literally is lift out of the box, plug it in, turn on the power. It turns on automatically in the continuous use mode which the guide recommends using for the first 24 hours. The water collector is very easy to remove and empty. The downsides of this unit is that when you take out the water bucket, water still drips as it has already condensed. I also tried turning off the unit for 3 min before removing the water, but it still dripped. The drips are inside the water container storage area and did not leak on my floor, but it something of which to be aware. I have not let it fill completely on it's own yet to hear the alarm sound. With the unit being on the floor, and the water collection at the bottom, it's not like you're gonna be able to see the water fill amount indicator unless you squat down to look.

5. Dehumidification - 5 stars - I live in a dry climate, but a home with moisture issues. The indoor temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit . The unit's starting hygrometer reading was 60% and it pulled a lot of water and reached 45% where it has stayed and continues to pull a good amount of water. I have emptied the water into my plant watering container and used it to water my plants. My laminate floors no longer feel moist. For those with a 2 story home, I would recommend a 2nd unit for the upstairs. I feel this unit covers my kitchen/dining room/living room but do not feel that it makes a difference for the upstairs.

6. Aesthetics - 4 stars - The unit is compact and a crisp white color. Living in a home with dark wood and colored walls, I would have preferred a darker color. The unit is recommended to have 18 inches of clearance from walls, so it's not something you can tuck out of the way. My black lab's hair also clings to the side of the unit as if there is a static electricity charge to it, but brushes away easily.

7. Quality for Price - 5 stars - This was very reasonable priced compared to the other units of similar size and capacity. I feel that I have received a quality product for the money I paid.

**i do NOT use the continuous drainage, nor did i test it.
Failed after 4.5 years of heavy use, but overall decent product
cheeriosoup✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 6, 2023
It did alright, given the abuse it's been through. It did its job for about 4.5-years straight in a humid, 1300 sqft basement before failing with a generic error code. It may just need coolant...hard to say from the code. It is reasonably easy to clean (although the tank is tough to scrub thoroughly w/o a bottle brush or something like that), it comes back online automatically after a power outage, and the pump means minimal maintenance. The pump was beginning to fail these past 6 months or so, but it kept going. I'll probably buy another since I know it works with my setup.
Meets expectations!

I have been using this product for about two months. Setup was very easy following the included instructions. Although it cost about $90 more than a dehumidifier without a pump, the pump is worth the additional cost.
