This is a stash box, not a jewelry box. I don't think it should have quite the same level of finish, but if i'm being critical, there is a flaw in the finish. The structure is basic (joints, species of wood, hinges, etc), but is solid and attractive. Overall a nice stain despite the flaw. In fact the flaw is so minor (visible from the back) that I haven't filled it in with a stain marker yet. This is definitely worth displaying on a book shelf, as-is. It could use another 1/4" in height, but the main compartment is large enough for most containers. Overall this is a fantastic value. I went to school for Carpentry and have made a jewelry box before .... the price is less than the materials would cost me to make it!

I know it's just a wood box, but it's really pretty. I bought it for my teenage son, he is always making things and I thought he might like it for storing small items. My husband remarked on how nice it was when he saw it. I will agree, it could be used for various things, it's very pretty and impressive. This is not cheap-looking. I thought my son would maybe store his small telescope lenses in it, but nope, he put his wires and trinkets from where he makes his little experiments. Oh well, he uses it, but it would look nice for an adult to use for other things like: bowties, jewelry, coins, arrowheads, maybe cigars, etc.

This box is basically well crafted, but in the one I recieved, the top is not perfectly joined, there is also a "scar" on the bottom that could/should have been sanded out before the finish was applied. The finish is good, and the box generally fits together just fine, but if a tiny smidgen more quality control had been applied, it would be a deal and I would have given it 5 stars. You get what you pay for.

So, the box itself has a great look. Kind of a just perfect size. However, I guess I missed a couple of things before making the purchase. The rolling tray is nice, but does not fit the length of the box. It would be nice if it had tabs/indentions or something so it could be sit the tray on top in the inside while being used. Last, the wooden pocket on the inside of the top is nice, but at the same time, if you have items that are in the smaller compartments of the box that are higher than the little walls, the box will not close because the wooden pocket is in the way. So, you have to carefully position your items in the box. I didn't need a box that locked, but it's nice that it's there. Other than that, the box is doable and will probably fit most people's needs. It just depends on what you are using it for.
