I was going to get a slicer from a shopping network but there were too many complaints. It came in 2 sizes. I saw this one - don't really NEED 2 sizes - cuts small and bigger melons with ease. You can use it to cut cake (do have a hole in the middle - but tube cakes don't have that issue). The hole is a little big for apples I think. Pineapples should work. Any slicer you get MUST have stainless steel or sturdy blades. This one qualifies for slicing watermelon - don't get much tougher than that. My husband did have to wiggle it a little to get it going - and then - had great slices. I could then trim off the rind - if I wanted to bother.
