Awesome First time VR experience

Pros
- Affordable, compared to other options coming in at $110 is nice.
- Convenient Headset for existing Phones you already own.
Cons
- The picture quality isnt MIND BLOWING, but it is clear and looks nice still.
- You have to remove your case to use the VR headset. Not a big deal, just a minor inconvenience.
Side thoughts - It comes included with a USB type C connected and a Micro USB is included in the package.
I personally have the Note 9 and it works straight out of the box. You do not need the $20 adapter, save your money.
I overall highly recommend this as your First VR experience, it has been my first and I am pretty satisfied with it.

Now that I have it working I'm fairly well impressed with the gear VR headset as implemented on my Samsung galaxy note 8. For well over a day and a half I was absolutely unable to get it working and I am a retired computer professional. Here's what I found out "“ you will absolutely need to remove your cell phone from any kind of a protective shock case. Once I did that it would work every once in a while but then I found that even the screen protector that was stuck on my screen would introduce enough additional thickness so that the connection that needs to be made between the cell phone and the headset would not "makeup" properly.
Worse yet, while trying to make the phone connect into the headset cradle, that additional thickness added by my screen protector caused it to be cracked. Thank God it was the screen protector (tempered glass not film - probably film would be ok) and not my screen that got broken while I was attempting to diagnose the issue. Samsung "“ why did you not offer better instructions on removing the screen protector?
Just a quick sentence or two about how these things work. In the front of the headset there is a cradle that has a USB interface that the phone connects with. Then the phone is pushed down into the cradle and a latch comes over to hold it there. First thing to realize is that this USB interface comes by default as USB type C and that is what is found on the note 8, note 9 and the S nines. It is also backward-compatible to cell phones with the micro USB and they have implemented an ingenious adapter that can be swapped out to convert the headset to the older connection. Be careful that you find your phone on the list of compatible devices the cradle is made so that will fit only certain phones.
I got into this by buying a very inexpensive VR 322 at a flea market thinking that it might work with my note 8 or my older note 4 but there was no way that my type C connector would interface from my note 8 and there was no way that my note 4 would interface with the cradle (too wide).
Hopefully, these technical issues which I worked out while experiencing a fairly significant amount of frustration will help. Once you get into it it's pretty cool. You can take virtual roller coaster rides "“ you can look at your own videos in a more immersive experience. There are games "“ just be aware that you could be sucked into a black hole vortex and never come out - variation on the classic cartoon with the skeleton except this skeleton would have a vr headset instead of a computer screen.

My 10 year old got this for her b/day and she was the one who set it up... She loves it... I'd like to say
I love it too, but I can't ONLY because I NEVER get to use it... She's ALWAYS ON IT!!! LOL She has a Samsung s9...I have note9... It came with 2 adapters.... But, if you buy a VR and it doesn't have the C adapter...just call Samsung customer service and they'll send you one for free... I did because I didn't know the seller would send the C adapter...so Samsung send one in the mail by UPS... So, loving the VR so far...at least my daughter... I've only used it once!!! 😊

A great way to enter the world of vr

A great way to enter the world of vr. I absolutely loved this thing the picture quality inside the headset is crystal clear and the product feels lightweight so I felt very immersed and comfortable in the vr.( I would recommend to use headphones for a more immersive experience) however the remote was pretty useless and I had great difficulty trying to pair it with the headset I eventually just stopped trying to use it which didn't bother me since I mostly use this to watch youtube or movies in vr.
Samsung Note 9 usage
Kassandra✓ Verified Purchase•May 14, 2023
Everything came in the box and works great for this model. You WILL need to buy or call Samsung for a specific additional connector for this specific phone to work with it. On Amazon the piece is an additional $50. Do not buy the cheaper $50 Gear VR as it does not fit the Note 9. If you youtube video for Samsung Note 9 and Gear VR there's a video explaining all the amazing uses for this phone with the Gear VR. They were MADE for eachother! Worth the price, just wish I knew upfront all that I know now. Hope this review saved you some of the time and effort and research I went through!
