Nice job.
Great camera for the price

I'm impressed by the detail and resolution of the camera. It also doesn't seem to drain my battery very quickly. I think for the price there isn't anything comprable from competitors in terms of specs. Learning to focus took a little bit of practice. I found all sorts of interesting sources of heat as well as heat loss around and outside my house.

Note I have the USB c Android edition. It works great with my pixel 3 (although I have to take off the case) but for some reason was not recognized by my OnePlus 3T.

Minor gripes: it requires full access to location data for the program to run, it will not even run if you set it to allow location collection "only when the app is running." I installed the app on my iPhone and it will run, with GPS data allowed only when the app is running. Android also notified me that it checked my location in the background randomly in the middle of the day when I had not even run the app that day, so I'm not sure what that's about. I guess you can turn off location privileges every time you stop using the app and then turn it back on next time you want to use it, but really, come on?

Also, I guess I have to get a USB port extender. Other than that it's pretty cool to be able to see things that you can't see with your own eyes.

Just a reminder for those wanting a magic camera that can see through stuff: this only shows surface temperature, it does not even see through windows, but will give you the temperature of the window glass. Sometimes it can even show you a cool reflection of yourself in the glass as your infrared light is reflected. That being said, if something behind a wall or door is putting off heat and warming up that section of wall, you will see that warmth on the other side.
Impressive camera

Seek did a nice job on this camera. It's smaller than I imagined. After installing the app, it works great with my "Galaxy ON 5" (so I had purchased the micro USB version, not the USB-C one). The phone is a spare, and after getting the app I just use it without an internet connection for this camera, and some Bluetooth gadgets I have. It has a manual focus adjust (rotating adjustment around the lens) that allows for crisper pictures at different distances, which is important. It re-scales the image every second or two as you move around so that the hottest item and coolest item fall at either end of the viewable spectrum, so you're not just stuck looking at a saturated image. I wouldn't claim that the on-screen temperature numbers are super accurate, but it gives a pretty good reference within what appears to be maybe 5% accuracy. I've used it to spot animals hiding in bushes, found some interesting rocks that seem to hold heat better than those surrounding them, inspected a leaky roof and could spot the source of the cold water better than the naked eye from standing on the floor, and the reason I bought it was to help troubleshoot circuit boards. In that regard it hasn't really paid for itself yet, but certainly looks like it will after a while (it's a comparison tool - compare a thermal picture of a known good board with a questionable failing board, so just takes time to establish a good baseline). I have been able to spot evidence of failed parts on boards that I already knew had problems - the camera just didn't help 'solve' the problem because there are parts that don't create heat because they are dead - I already knew they were dead, but now I know they're not dead because of excessive current, so it's probably an open - which makes sense. It was able to focus well enough on the boards to see evidence of warm traces on inner layers - which is super neat! This is not a $10,000 camera, so don't expect it to be, but I'm certainly pleased with the quality of the image I'm seeing on this $270 gadget. Having never owned a thermal camera before, it's so much fun to just walk around and check things out. You're bound to find some interesting things that you didn't expect.
Ok cam. Privacy reviews seem superstitious.

Android has some poor design choices that make it so that apps must request more access that they need. This may be an explanation of some of the privacy concerns in other reviews. To really be sure, the app should be made open source so that everyone can see the code. I'm here asking Seek to open source the code, and if everyone here does the same, maybe we can make progress.

For the product itself...

Not bad overall. Decent imagery. Enough to help with my home weatherization. Would I buy it again? Probably.

Cons:

Need auto adjustment of emissivity, or at least quick option. Emissivity is a big deal. As it stands it takes quite a bit of poking through menus to change the setting.

Temperature reading is very inaccurate. Relative temperatures within an image are decent, but there temperatures themselves are way off. Need an easy way to calibrate.

Connecting and disconnecting the camera are difficult. The USB-C won't quite seat while my thin case is on. So I have to partially remove the case each time I use the thing. Removing the camera is easy, but the camera surface is slick, so there's a good chance you will drop it during removal. Need grippiness on the sides of the camera, just a few grooves would be sufficient.

The software interface is not horrible, but it is quite bad. It takes many taps to change things. For some reason it also won't give much of the actual camera image - would be easy to show more side by side, or just automatically store the normal pic at the same time.
Beat it For the Price if you can

I bought this to test this unit out and to see if I could determine where I was getting heat escape from the house.

Pros:
- Relatively cheap compared to others
- Plug and Play (After software is installed)

Cons:
- Rendering is not as crisp as I was expecting (compared to other pics I saw in the reviews)
- No real instructions
- Low FOV
- Make clicking sound constantly (Recalibration)

I bought this as it seemed to have a decent review compilation and due to it being under $200.
It came in a nice box and also comes with a hard plastic storage case when you are not using it. They claim it is waterproof and from my testing (without my Seek in the case), it did appear to be waterproof. To what depth or pressure is unknown.

The instructions come on a few lines on one page of the Welcome Guide document.

1. Download the Seek Thermal App
2. Plug Seek device into your phone
3. Register
4. Look around

That is really all there is. There are a couple of instructions videos that the manufacturer supplies during the first run of the app. I do have to say that this tutorial is pretty informative.. The app is not intuitive and is hard to navigate and use if you do NOT go through the tutorial first. I will again say that in the tutorial, the resolution that is displayed is not what I see when I use my unit. My pics and videos are much grainier than you see in the demo. I am not sure if it is perhaps a default setting I need to change, a bad unit or just the way it is.

As you move the camera around you will hear an audible clicking that at first I had no idea what it was or why it was doing it. But from other reviews it apparently is a recalibration of the camera. It is a little obnoxious but after you know what it is .. it is not so bad. Unfortunately, I have to take the protective case off of my phone as the plug-in is not long enough to reach the port. I do not feel like my case is overly thick, but rather quite average as far as phone cases go. So this is a bit of a problem for me, if you are in an attic or somewhere where my phone could take a good fall. It doesn't have any protection with the Seek in use.

It will take some time to get comfortable with the app and the camera focus. Focus is easy enough to use, similar to binoculars. But again, I have to state that my images are so grainy that focusing is sort of moot. When you get the focus close enough .. its not going to get that much better. All the pics and videos are deposited in my Photos, so easy to find.

All that said, it has been fun to look around and detect heat or cold losses, etc. For $200 I was hoping for a bit more just from the videos, but I am still relatively satisfied with the product. If you want something that is going to give you more FOV and resolution you will have to go out of pocket a lot more. For the most part, I think this delivers what it advertised.
