It says for normal sized fireplace, we have burns around outer edge, just from putting in fire wood. Old people that heat house with insert so not real rough. Being in Montana 100 miles from boarder, use every day.. The rug itself gets burn marks on. Easy to clean.

This mat isn't as thick as had expected but lays flat & covers the area I needed for protection against sparks. We haven't had the occasion to test fire resistance thank goodness but it passed fireplace codes for our insurance purposes.
