My son is an advanced beginner and has been practicing with a butterfly type. I went to get more strings and noticed this one and decided to try it. HE LOVES IT! The 2-way feature of sleep makes it much easier to perform more advanced tricks! He's increased his skill 3 fold in a week since he got it, now doing Around the World, Cats Cradle, Walk the Ferret (lol) and more ;-) Can't speak to durability other than the fact that it often hits the ground at noticeable speed (YMMV) and hasn't broken yet! Nice product, arrived quickly even in Covid time and providing great non-screen distraction for the boy!
it's a little heavy

of the 7 yoyos i currently own, this is my second yomega.
i have the yomega brain on display for nostalgic purposes, the XP is my everyday yoyo.
to preface: i dont yoyo for tricks, i was born in the 90's
a yoyo is a 90's kid's "fidget spinner".
a yomega is a cultural staple, next to pokemon cards, gameboys, and surge soda.
this yoyo is not for tricks, its heavy.
buying this yoyo is like buying a 1970's muscle car, knowing full well, you're not buying it for the mpg- but for the raw power attached to nostalgia.
its an exquisite piece of technology.
its really affordable for what it is.
get one! remember, you can return things on amazon.
i promise you wont though.

Great yoyo for beginners. I accidentally bought a magnetar (a level 3 yoyo) and this is so much easier for me to use. The switch comes in handy as time goes on. I am between a level 1 & 2 so it lets me easily practice new stuff while also stay classic and have fun.
It goes up and down. Tricks possible.

My 5 yo and 8 yo got these for Christmas. They were both confidently yo-yoing up and down within an hour or two which is really all most little kids want to do. But, they also feel really cool when they flip it to trick mode and make stuff up. My favorite is "walk the cat" which just means drop is down and let the yoyo do whatever it wants, which sounds accurate, lol. I like that if they do decide they want to try a trick, they have the tool to start and if they really show dedication down the line, then I can look into fancy trick yoyos. Also, it's hit the ground a few times and hasn't broken yet, so that's a plus in my book.
Because Sometimes, You Just Want to Throw

I have a pair of "classic" Duncan Imperial yo-yos that were reissued some years back: all-wool, old-school, and all that. Fun, but sometimes a tad more challenging than I'd be into at a given moment. I'm into doing a few classic tricks, but nothing more - I'm well past the show off stage here, and more into the therapeutic angle of yo-yoing. And that sometimes means wanting to take it easy, which brings me to this Yomega: you might call this the equivalent to driving a sports car with a dual-clutch transmission versus my Duncan's five-on-the-floor. You can switch between having it instantly return on the throw and letting it spin when you're feeling like getting fancy. My only quibble is with the weight of the thing: the added mechanics can sometimes make the return a little heavy handed, but a slight change in technique can handle that. Overall, it's a nice alternate to my Duncan's when the mood suits. Recommended.
