The device came with a calibration certificate as all scientific devices should. The instructions are great though and they didn't give instructions on how to calibrate it and how often you need to. But I tested it with several UV sources and it's definitely responsive. Although it doesn't take much UV light to go off the scale even on high. So I'm not sure how much utility it is. Still it's a cool scientific measurement instrument and I love those.
If you need to measure potentially harmful UV light you might need some thing with a higher tolerance. This will go off the scale pretty quickly with a normal UV flashlight at about 2 feet away.

AMTAST UVC light meter is easy to operate; however I have no idea whether the readings reflects reality since there is no certificate of traceability to any standard.
