The story was well written and portrayed by the actors. I gave this dvd set to my family to view and they enjoyed it.
Review of BD- Unique way of telling a story family with WAY too many secrets NO SPOILERS here!

This is another fine release from Acorn. It is not a "series" and the story is complete in six 47-minute "episodes" (It aired on Irish commercial TV so there was room for commercials).
This is a "mystery" and (possibly) "crime drama". You won't know if a "Crime" was committed until the 6th episode. And, if you've read my MANY reviews of Acorn DVDs and Blurays over the last five years, you will know I hate "spoilers", so you'll find little here; just helpful info to guide you.
At the beginning of the story a mother is found dead by the pond in the family's back yard. The "loner" of the three adult children (Cat) comes home for the funeral. She immediately thinks her father MIGHT have killed their mother. But we aren't sure and neither are her siblings. It seems that EVERYONE in this small town has a secret (or two, or three), And the writer and director let those secrets be revealed in appropriate order. We have our doubts too for the first five episode. All is revealed in the final one and it (sort of) makes sense.
In one of the two "bonus" featurettes on the BD the producer talks about how expensive an independent series can be. Well, they did save on "extras" in the cast. You only see non-critical characters in one scene and much of the action takes place in three houses and the gorgeous Irish countryside outside Dublin.
The series stars actor Adrian Dunbar "“ who you will know from the superb series "Line of Duty" and he is good. But (new to me) actress Carolina Main (as Kat) was the real revelation for me. When she is not in a scene it's less interesting than when she is.
I'm still giving the series five stars but I do have to admit there were some "loose ends" that later bothered me. No, I'm not going to reveal the "secret" held by such characters as Cat's sister or the father's (Dunbar's character Jim) cousin, or the limping local cop (called Gardes in Ireland) just to name a few, but they are revealed and never expounded on. As I said, I have never seen a story where EVERY character has at least one dark secret.
As noted there are two bonus featurettes: there is a 17 minute one with interviews with the cast and crew and another 8-minute one with the "production team" taking about location shooting. Of course there are lots of clips from the series but I always enjoy seeing the actors "out of their roles".
Lastly, the word "Blood" does not refer to the red liquid that circulates in our veins, but the "blood relatives" in this family.
There are other reviews here but some give too many details to spoil the series for you. I also recommend that you avoid the text "synopsis" which appear before you PLAY each episode. Let the info you get come from the series itself.
I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.

This Is The Story

Blood was a plodding series at times. It has 6 episodes, that could have been cut to 4. Adrian Dunbar plays a physician, married, with 3 grown children. His wife has a terminal illness that sounds like ALS. We meet his entire family as they gather after their mother has died.
The youngest daughter has always had a contentious relationship with her father. He had seemingly made her feel as if she was a liar and always in the wrong. The reality is that the father is a liar, a thief and much, ore. The younger daughter now thinks that her father may have caused her father's death. This is the story, and this provides 6 episodes of back story. It is not until almost the last episode that we understand what has gone down, and not what we think occurred.
This is a well written series, too long as I have stated, but well done. The characters are all well done, the acting superb, the storyline direct as far as I can tell, but, once again, drawn out too long. This not as much a mystery as a timeline of a family and the ev3nts that unfolded. I do not think it is a good as Broadchurch or the other mysteries referred within. All in all well worth a look.

The acting of every single actor was BEYOND. Heavy and worth every minute. Triggers of DV in the the 6th and final episode. Might be in the 5th so be aware. Spectacular Irish movie.
