The picture quality was fine and controls were ok. My only dislike was the very small base which made it hard to use it the way I wanted to. If you just want to look at slides then it's plenty but I used it to look up circuit boards. Luckily I had another base and it fit perfect and was able to use it the way I needed to.
More useful than you think.... but dont expect to see electrons.

I'm happy with the purchase. This is really great for inspections on small objects. Generally speaking, its helpful for inspecting things the size of the 'sharp tip of a pen' to the 'dull end of a pen'. That's about the range. Dont expect to see electrons, mitochondria, microbes, nor bacteria. If you need help seeing the small holes on a watchband to add links, this is it. If you need to inspect coins, stamps, baseball cards, or other collectable items, this is it. Trying to read the fine print on a document or manual? This can help. One of the best things is the fact that it takes pictures and records video as well. Great for ebay auctions.
What I find useful about THIS microscope... Its portable and lightweight. The battery is rechargeable. It uses a microSD card for memory. The LED lights always supply the perfect amount of light. It's simple to operate. It's not expensive.
What I didn't care for about THIS microscope.... There is a lot of 'play' in the stand because its plastic. It does make it easier to maneuver but still. I wish it came with a small carrying case. I'm concerned about dust.
It took a couple minutes to get used to the operation. Basically the top moves up and down on the pole, and clamps on with a screw on the back (coarse adjustment). theres two knobs on the top that also make the unit go up and down (fine adjustment) and finally the focus on the front. Try to adjust in that order and it works good.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Useful for the garage, collectors, and students.

Got this for my 6 year old nephew because the eye scope kind was a bit difficult for him to see and adjust. This one is easy for kids to use because there's a basic power button, 2 rolling knobs to lower the scope and the front adjustment to put the object into focus. And then there's a button for the magnification.
It comes with 2 of the glass strips with some onion skin and fly wing. It's also packaged very nicely and securely unlike the first microscope I bought.
He's obsessed with bugs and everything in the garden, so he's gonna love this.
