The chair is perfect for reading. Wide enough to tuck legs under body, wrap up in a blanket, and comfortably read. It's also good for lounging. It's upright and sturdy. My husband calls it an "old chair", but I love it - it's beautiful, sturdy, and serves a purpose. FYI - the legs of the chair are stored in the bottom of the seat, when you get it. At first I didn't see that, and it took me a while to figure out where the legs were!
