We've had our Whirlpool Duet for quite a few years now, and this is the second time I've needed to replace the drain pump. They seem to go for 5 to 8 years of daily use and then fail.
If you know the "trick" for opening the cover plate, you'll be able to handle this. (You'll already need to know how to remove the cover and how to turn the handle to clean gunk out of the "button trap" every few months, so I keep a short piece of 2x4 handy to prop up the front of the washer. It's an unfortunately obscure design, but it works as long as you can get to the fasteners.)
Unfortunately, the first try on this one, I got a lemon. Had I entered a review for it, I would have written "smokes too much," because it did. It WORKED, but the smell and heat told me it wouldn't have lasted even another day. Fortunately I was able to return it easily.
I'm glad the washer parts are so readily available I can order these and have them in hand in LESS than a day (same day, sometimes) via Amazon. I know one of these days some part of the washer will break and I'll decide it isn't worth repairing. (The bellows seal was ALMOST too difficult for me, for instance, but I got it installed and it's been going for quite a few years now.)

This worked out great for my broken drain pump on my old front loader. I can't believe how much quieter everything is now! I think it's because the water is actually draining during the spin cycle instead of spinning with the clothes! Just a tip...grease up the o-ring on the filter with plumber's grease and you won't have any leakage issues.
