these pre-soldered pickups are Great! the only flaw is that you have to make your own break in the wiring if you're replacing your old pickups. there should be an easy break away area in order to run the wires. overall, im satisfied with my purchase, and my old bass is working again!
I needed a preamp replacement.

I blew my original preamp so I chose this complete preamp wiring kit, which saved me over $250 in repair cost. I took to guitar center to get a diagnostic done for $27, they told me the preamp wasn't receiving any signal at all, everything else is fine. They said to replace pickups and convert it to passive it would be over $300 out the door. This bass was a gift and I wasn't planning on spending $300 on this rinky 4 string.

I just used my own barrel jack to wire in and that's about it, all you do is cut and splice each of the components pickups, battery terminal, and barrel jack or whatever input jack your using. Just do each one by one and you won't snag any issues.

NOTE: You do need to solder a ground wire from the volume pot reach all the way through the body of your bass, and take a bit of wire at the end and ground that end to the bridge of the bass by making sure the exposed wire end is touching the metal on the bridge, (any area on the backside of bridge works).

The only con I've encountered was putting the bridge pickup in, the tolerance was really tight it was very tough to get the pick up in the cutout, I had to remove and hand sanded the wood back a bit. Not a deal break but just an headache.

Other than that, this thing finally plays and it sounds so deep and awesome, the pickups really are not that bad actually. If you need a quick fix and aren't set out to pay a fortune, get this preamp bundle.

Overall, I spent $59 to fix this bass and get it playing again. $27 to Get diagnostic to figure out preamp was busted, and $32 for the wiring harness replacement kit. If you know your preamp is already blown you can bypass the diagnostic. Hope this helps you decide which direction to go.
Very nice pickups, especially for the price. Very Happy.

I put these in my 80s Ibanez Roadstar II PJ bass. I actually used them to replace a set of EMGs that crapped out on me and I wasn't able to get working again. There were no wiring glitches in mine, and they worked as soon as I put them in. They sound better than the EMGs, when blended. The J pickup is a little harsh by itself, but the P is fantastic and can be used alone for a nice hot-rodded Precision sound.
I would suggest to the seller a few quick disconnects or solderless connections for the battery and the bridge pickup, because the only way to install these is to cut the wires, thread them, and re-solder with heat shrink insulation. I also had to extend a couple of the wires in the same way. But anyone with even meager soldering skills can easily do this. It would just be attractive to a broader market if splicing weren't necessary. Another minor quibble is that there could be a more pronounced center detent in those pots that have it; it's hard to find it. And the pots are not hard to figure out, except you can't tell bass from treble. Would it be so hard to label them?
I also replaced the cheap jack with a high quality Switchcraft.

Also, these are not quite standard size PJ pickups, they are slightly overlarge. I had to rout the cavity a little bigger for the J, and grind the pickguard a bit to fit the P. Only problem with this would be it makes the prospect of ever going back to normal size in the future difficult if not impossible. But all in all I really love these, and the price is astonishing. $40 compared to $180 for EMGs. This wonderful vintage Ibanez now sounds even more amazing! Especially when using the "Vintage" control on my MarkBass Littlemark II and using the P pickup alone. Want to go back to a more modern sound? Turn that control off.
Price is right!
