I knew the wood wasn't going to be the best quality because of reading the reviews. The issue I have with the product is the odor. I have put essential oils on it & it's been outside since my husband out it together- no changes yet. But I remain hopeful. The concept is good, the odor not so good.

For the cost, I couldn't really expect too much. The screws are a bit more obvious that they seem in the pictures as well. It was easy to put together following the instructions. It smelled horribly of fish for a hot minute, but that passed, haha. I decided to reinforce it with glue as I went to ensure it was strong (just a but between each joint). Doing that made it feel a bit more sturdy and less likely to tug apart if something caught on it. I honestly wouldn't mind getting another one or two to create a little wall of them on a desk.

If you like puzzles or IKEA furniture this for you! It's not hard to put together but it did take a little bit of time because I glued mine together with wood glue. It comes with screws but I'm not sure it would be very sturdy with just those. Don't press too hard when putting it together or it will crack... oops. Nothing a little wood glue won't fix :)

I'm not sure what the reviews saying it took hours to put together with no clear instructions came from but I'm mechanically disinclined and I did it alone in 20 minutes or less. Very easy with a detailed sheet of instructions with pictures for each step and tips to make it faster. The piece itself is thin veneer type wood similar to those wooden airplanes that kids snap together that always breaks. But thicker and finished so fairly sturdy once completely assembled. Yes, it's not a solid piece of furniture. It's a $15.00 pencil holder or whatever you use it for and with that it's a good piece for the price. I took off one star because the silver screws stick out like a sore thumb. Wish they were brass color or something similar to the wood
