Upon receiving this "tactical" jacket, I immediately began feeling more combat ready. The mere sight of the Velcro on the jacket's arms (where I would soon be able affix my morale patches) motivated me to drop down and knock out a few push-ups. This new Amazon order put me in the mood to do some serious PT, so I donned the new jacket and headed out the door. The jacket's generous fit, tactical features, and rugged construction had me calling cadence at the top of my lungs. The jacket kept me warm, and my fat was crying. Once cadence had sufficiently reinforced the knowledge that my rifle is for shooting and my gun is for fun, I decided to see how this jacket would do in wet inclement conditions. I hit the Barracks' showers on the double. I stood with just the jacket on, under the pouring water, for roughly 10 mikes. The jacket kept me bone dry, with the only thing getting wet being twelve gazing platoon mates. I concluded that the jacket was an ideal piece of tactical equipment and added it to my EDC kit. I will always keep this jacket on my person and ready for use; because the only easy day was yesterday.

I gave 5 stars for water resistance and weatherproofness as I feel it will likely do well enough. I don't expect water proof, just to keep it at bay for a while. Have yet to actually put it through its paces.

I gave my only waterproof jacket to my mom as she needed it when we were out once. She loved wearing it, so I said she could keep it. Thus, I now need a replacement as I have nothing else water resistant and will be going on a 2 wk trip to Norway in mid June. It is still cool above the arctic circle in June. I needed one garmet that could cover a decent range of weather. This was cheap, water resistant and had a good hood. I took a chance (having time to return and get something else if I didn't like it). Got it yesterday and gave it a good exam and wear around the house. It is exactly as advertised. I ordered a 2XL as I am in between XL and 2XL in most things and just erred on the side of safety. The 2XL fits PERFECTLY. It has enough room still for a fleece or hoodie underneath. For reference, I am 5'8" and 240lbs (stocky not round). The jacket's shell is very comfortable fabric that has some stretch, so it moves very nicely with you and seems reasonably durable. The thin fleece liner is nice and makes it much more comfortable to wear. The pockets and stitching all look well done and pass my initial exam. The dual zipper works very well. I have an ICON motorcycle jacket with a dual zipper that sucks. Was worried this would too, nope. The rest of the zippers all work very well. I kept saying to myself, this was only $32. I should buy more. The hood, when rolled up, isn't ideal, but fine. Just leaving it down is likely how I will roll. Also, the velcro on the hood is a bit misaligned. Not bad and still works fine, but I notice it. This jacket appears to be identical to the Free Soldier jacket (like many things on Amazon - same thing, different brand names and prices), just in this case, much cheaper. For the money, this is AMAZING.

Note on the sizing chart: It appears that the Chest size is the actual circumference of the fabric, not your suit coat size. Thus, if I wanted it to wear it bare chested like skin, a small would be perfect (49 chest) You have to account for how many extra inches you want inside to account for shirts and potentially layers, for reference, the 2XL was ideal for me.

I'm very pleased with this purchase' it's warm waterproof breathable and fairly light . It's perfect for our Oregon coast winters 💦🌧ï¸ðŸ˜‰

I would give this a 3.75 rating if partial star was available. I would still recommend.

This weekend I took this to the Rocky Mountains for some testing. Two 3 to 4 mile hikes where the daily temp did not get above 30 degrees. The sun was out, but it was very windy. I was not able to test waterproofness as no snow or rain.

I am athletic build, 6' 3" about 190. The XL fit very well. The first day I wore a full size hoodie sweatshirt underneath and I was too warm hiking and had to take the coat off. The wind was whipping and the temp was high twenties. I tried the pit zips and still was very warm on a very strenuous hike. So it holds heat well and is an absolute wind stopper.

The second day I wore a light weight long john long sleeve shirt and wore the jacket the entire day. The hood was used a lot as well as the wind was worse and the temps were a little cooler. The coat worked perfectly for these conditions. I will update this review after I experience snow or rain.

Now a couple of nits. The front pocket zippers are the exact size as the pocket, they need to be a little shorter so things do not immediately fall out if the zippers are open. There needs to be an inch or two below the zipper. The zippers must be closed while moving. The stitches all had the extra hanging thread which needed to be cleaned up. The zippers and pull strings are very light duty and I question their durability.

That being said, for the price I would say this stacks up with some of my name brand ski gear. This will be used as my "I don't care if it gets dirty / trashed jacket" as the pice point makes this a real winner. Hope this helps.

It's a good jacket for the price. It is almost identical to the Rothco soft shell, except this jacket has a cheap zipper.

Beware of sizing. I read that it runs small, so I ordered a L. I had to return it for a size S instead. (I'm 5'9" & 165 lbs)
