Here are my test results after less than 24 hours of setting up my new tank with this substrate. If you add fish or shrimp at this point, they will die. You must cycle your tank first. Plant your tank so that they absorb the ammonia and add some old plants and substrate to help cycle. Your plants will grow crazy fast! The Seller is VERY responsive and will help guide you in this process, so ask them for help if you are a beginner with high ammonia substrate. I'm going to cap it with sand. Also, get plants that absorb ammonia right from the water column like anubias and java ferns. Would buy again now that I know how to use it! One of the benefits is that you can get harder to grow plants and they will thrive.

Good price, seems to do well in the tank without spiking nitrates. Definitely addressed the KH issue, and pH seems to be holding around 6.0-6.5. My complaint would be that there was a good bit of dried grass, small leaves, and some pieces of gravel mixed in, so this bag of substrate required cleaning. Once I did that, left it in a bucket with nitrifying bacteria added before putting into aquarium and it seems fine. Seems to be a decent Controsoil knockoff, with a little work on my end.
