I have young sons and have tried multiple Zebco's and a Pflueger spincast reel. This KastKing is not only affordable but in my opinion is the best in class for a spincaster. I haven't tried more expensive Zebco's and I don't need to. You have to remember with any reel that you need to clean it and lube it periodically. The KingKaster is forgiving but when reeling in from a pond or lake from the shore, you're going to pull in a lot of gunk on the line that goes in to the housing. It also casts quite smooth especially for a spincast and gets some distance if you know how to cast. I have multiple KingKaster Brutus reels and I even use one especially if I'm pond fishing.

I grew up on spincasters and I never could get the hang of spinning reels. My old Zebco from my childhood finally died, and I bought a $100 Zebco Bullet that broke after less than 1 month of hard use.
After learning my lesson I decided to give this much cheaper spincast reel a try. So far after several months of hard use, it's been working much better than the $100, at least it hasn't broken yet. It casts great, retrieves well, I have no complaints.
The only problems are that I fish in saltwater, and there's already a bit of rust in the internals after a few months but that might be my own fault for not being diligent in rinsing out saltwater that splashes on it. The other issue is probably universal to spincasters. The spool capacity of this reel is fairly terrible for higher pound test lines. I tried using #20 test mono to fish for salmon, and this was really pushing the limit of that this reel could handle. I does not do well with #20 line. It doesn't cast or retrieve the super thick lines well, and it doesn't hold very much line at that diameter. That said, I still successfully landed the salmon.
I would say this reel is designed for, and works superbly well for freshwater fishing, with #10 test or less monofilament line. When I used the pre-spooled #10 lb test for freshwater trout fishing it was great.

Rod & Reel were packaged well and arrived on time. Appears to be everything that I had expected; however I have not tried the yet. Based upon the price I believe it is an excellent value. I will give five stars and update if I become disappointed. I got the KastKing Rod & their spin cast reel.

I am teaching to young girls to fish and a reel that was easy to use and also good quality to not lock up, overspill when casting,etc. you know what I mean. First out of the box the reel felt solid and looked like it was made from quality materials, machined and casted well. After it was mounted to a good medium light rod I strung up a test casting weight and was I surprised at the smooth cast, and the just as smooth retrieve. Then off to the lake to have the youngsters try it and waiting for the mishaps to happen, I never once had a bundle of tangled line from overspooling. They appeared to be first time fisher proof lol. The second trip to the lake was the same result. I always have one extra rod set up in the boat as a back up so when a mishap happens just grab the extra rod and it can be dealt with later and no lost fishing time, but wanted to test these out first before ordering a third. I now have a third set up the same way as the other two and could not be happier with the results I got on a chance. I would highly recommend these and I may even consider more in the future.
