Got for my husband as a birthday gift, never knew how much I needed one until then. We use this often, it's super simple and for a small household is perfect, I've never made better meats in my entire life
Great "smart" sous vide machine, but could be just a little better.

I've been getting into sous vide and I really like this one, but it's not quite perfect.
I like that it connects to my home's WiFi rather than just directly to my phone's bluetooth for controlling it via the app. That means I can take something out of the freezer and stick it in my water before I leave for work in the morning for it to thaw throughout the day. Then, I can pop into the app from literally anywhere my phone has internet access (still at work or just over LTE) and turn it on so I've got it fully cooked and ready to eat by the time I get home.
What I don't like, or what could make this even better, are mostly software items, which means Anova does have the ability to make these updates via an app update if they so choose to. The app is pretty slow to load and it's a little clunky to navigate. I usually just end up searching my recipe online and then just manually typing in the time and temp. Typing in the temp and time can be tricky sometimes as the cursor isn't always where I think it is, but that's mostly minor stuff. Another thing that I would like to see is the ability to schedule the cook. Either just having the ability to start the cook automatically at a certain time and/or the ability to finish the cook by a certain time would be super helpful. Then, it would truly be a "set it and forget it" operation and I'd come home to a fresh, hot, ready to eat meal without having to think about it throughout the day.
Overall, it's a great unit and seems pretty good quality from a hardware perspective. I'd love to see a software update address a couple items to make it even better!

Poor quality materials and customer support

AN500-US00 Sous Vide Precision Cooker (WiFi), 1000 Watts.
It worked well for about 8 months then the control panel (top of the unit) has suddenly come off.
It appears that the screw holes in the plastic base of the top have cracked and loosened over time due to exposure to the standard cooking temperatures (I have never cooked anything above 160F). The plastic material out of which the device is built is not adequate for handling the standard sous vide cooking temperatures, which is less than 160F in my case. Sad. The unit is not built to last.
Warranty process is also very slow and convoluted. It has been 5 days, I have not received the repaired unit or a replacement yet, nor have been promised any timelines. Support is simply unresponsive. Hence, be aware of the poor quality customer service.
Update: it took 2+ weeks to receive the replacement. I am upgrading to 4 stars. It is not a 5 star product as the failure I've experienced is a preventable defect.

8/23 Update:
I did go ahead and purchase Anova 3.0.
-It does heat a bit quicker, but seriously, for the amount of hours I typically cook I'm not sure that is of great importance.
-My biggest issue is that the temperature is not monitored when turned off. The display remains at the Programmed temp. This makes me uneasy. Previous unit would always display current temp as water cooled. I was more comfortable always seeing current water temp. Not that I make a habit out of leaving items in once shut off, but if it shuts off, you don't know what the actual temp is that the water has cooled down to, without thermometer. Eliminating live monitoring rather loses my trust of unit accurately monitoring temp.
Temp probe came loose and unit failed at 3.5 years. Treated with kid gloves with wiping down to clean. Never could get wi-fi to work. Would prefer same unit without actually. Never had issues with temp or it's ability to maintain consistency with high or long cooks. Was very pleased with its performance, but with maybe an average of 2 uses per month, and the cost, I am disappointed with its short life.
Deciding on replacement. I would try the Joule but, app only, I think would bug me. Anova 3.0 only seems to have upgrade to wi-fi (don't really care), and the dual display(a bit nicer but no biggy over waiting a few seconds for display change). There appears to be no core changes to components, and now I know the temp probe is an issue.

Great for first timers or the more experienced

This is my 2nd sous vide machine. And lemme say. It's so easy to use. And it gets up to temp so much quicker than the Inkbird I used to have. So far I'm loving this.
