Installed my first Mighty Mule in 2003. It was a workhorse, fully self-contained, and posed no problems until a component in the circuit board gave up the ghost.
The new model is not as robust. More disappointing is the necessity of buying a deep-cycle automobile-size 12 volt battery (plus weatherproof container) to operate the system. Finally, the earlier controllers could not be programmed to operate the new system.
I've been up and running since only 12 Feb 2021, so it's too early to know if this one will also last 18 years.

Bought the push to open arm, you can install it and use it with this kit, however you cannot invert the control board operation. Adding the FM148 accessory to this kit will leave the controller incorrectly thinking that extended actuator = closed gate. So if you turn on the timer and close the gate, it will automatically open back up. Other models have a jumper on the board that allows you to tell the controller you are switching to the 'push-to-open' functionality, inverting open/closed positions and allowing your exit sensors, gate latches, and timers to function accordingly.
Adding the FM148 to this kit will force me to click the gate open AND closed everytime. I either need to buy the MM371 or switch gate swing to the stock 'pull-to-open' design, if I want to maintain my functionality and accessories. Since as-is, exit sensor will function as a "close the gate! Someone's coming!" sensor

Previous Mighty Mule gate openers used an 18vAC transformer. Indeed the user manual for the MM271 indicates the the transformer output is 18-22 vAC. Imagine my surprise when I measured the output voltage of the transformer as 40 vAC. I called the tech line and after enduring 30 minutes of holding with atrocious, repetitive music (?), talked with the helpful phone person. He agreed the output should be 18 vAC and arranged to send a replacement and an RA. The replacement transformer had the same readout (40 vAC) as the first. Back to the phone and the obligatory 30 minute hold time. This time I discovered that the transformer output was supposed to be 18 vDC, not AC and that the user manual was incorrect (as was the original technologist's response). I altered the voltmeter settings and both transformers read 18 vDC. I was told I could keep the extra transformer but I'll never get back the wasted time.

I purchased this to replace a failing MM 360 gate opener which continues to work with the difficulty as long as there's sufficient battery power to it since I have not yet installed a new opener I cannot comment yet on its function

We have a 12 foot gate and this works with our existing remotes, so I bought it. Do not expect a lot out of these, this is our 3rd Mighty Mule opener in 5 years. They seem to last out here in the woods for about 2 years. I would suggest getting this one, as it is the cheapest to replace, lol. I run a mighty mule solar charger and a big 12 volt marine deep cycle battery, but these may last longer if they are ran on AC power. Our gate gets opened 4 to 6 times daily on average. I pull the battery off and charge it every 3 or 4 months.
