Key features

  • ▶【2-in-1 Moisture Meter】The 2-in-1 Dr.meter moisture meter offers ideal dual functions of pin-type and pinless scanning in one. The pinless scanning mode with non-invasive measurement is ideal for high-end wood and building materials. The pin-type mode with faster response and higher accuracy is great for all kinds of wood and building materials.
  • ▶【Wide Measuring Range】Different measurement modes correspond to different measurement ranges. In the pin-type mode: wood: 5%-50%, building materials: 1.5%-33%, error range: +/-2%; In the pinless scanning mode: wood: 5%-53%, building materials: 0-35%, error range: +/-4%.
  • ▶【Over-range Alert】There are four pinless scanning modes of softwood, hardwood, gypsum board and concrete. The general algorithm has been written into the user manual to reduce the redundant settings before use to facilitate customers. When the wood moisture exceeds 17% or the wall humidity exceeds 70%, the wood moisture tester will beep to alert you.
  • ▶【Current Ambient Temperature Measurement】The Dr.meter intelligent wood moisture meter can not only measure the humidity of wood and building materials, but also it can measure 0-40 degree current environmental temperature with only +/-2 degree error.
  • ▶【User-friendly Design】Designed with green backlight display, reading hold on function and measurement signal bar display for more intuitive measurement tips, the digital moisture detector is more user-friendly. A bonus nylon storage bag is provided to store the product conveniently.

A great tool for finding water damage in (or under) hardwood floors
Brian D.✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 12, 2023
I had a leak in my house that damaged a 6x10 foot area of hardwood floor. This "Dr.meter" Wood Moisture Meter helped me pinpoint all the water under the floor, so I could tell how many boards to pull up. It's as easy to use as a stud-finder.

I had a water remediation company come out, so I compared the Dr.meter to their $650 ProtiMeter SurveyMaster, and the results were essentially identical. The only shortcoming was that this only has a 0% - 35% reading for hardwood floors, versus the ProtiMeter's 0001-9999 relative readings; but it really didn't matter for real-life use. My undamaged hardwood floors measured 7% - 11% moisture content, and the slightly damp areas measured about 12% - 20%, and the wet moldy areas measured about 21% - 35%. I marked the bad areas with blue painter's tape, then started pulling up the flooring. Once I pulled the boards up, I could easily see the water staining on the sub-floor, which matched my tape marks, proving that the meter accurately found all the wet damaged areas!

It worked equally well for drywall; the meter showed no water got into my walls. The water remediation company pulled out the drywall anyway, just in case, but it turns out that the meter was correct. If they had just pulled the bottom two inches of drywall, we could have easily patched it and covered the area with baseboard, but now I need a contractor to rebuild my walls, as well as the floor.

Note that the pins only measure as far as you can press them into the wood (or sheetrock, or carpet), so if the top side of the wood is dry, the pins probably won't measure any moisture. The "pinless" (wireless) measurement is much better for finding hidden water between the floorboards and the subfloor (or drywall), but it can only read water down to about 0.8 inches, so it won't see really deep damage in studs or floor joists. There are more expensive detectors that can detect water up to 4 inches down.

I discovered that even the industrial dehumidifiers and fans from the water remediation company can only dry surface moisture and carpets; once water gets underneath floorboards you really have no choice but to rip it up. Having a moisture meter really helps determine the extent of the damage before you start any demolition. Overall, an inexpensive but really handy tool that every homeowner should have!
Works well

I have no way of ensuring its accuracy, but recently had a pipe leak in my basement which sprayed water over several plywood panels. We wanted to monitor our efforts at remedying this issue. It picked up areas that were most heavily affected by this and showed very low moisture levels in the adjacent areas. Over time, the areas of elevated moisture leveled out to those surrounding them. I am happy with my purchase, as i feel the instrument reflected exactly what was predicted, and was very easy to use and read. Considering the low price point, this earns 5 stars without hesitation.
Affordable, easy to use moisture meter

I often work with wood that has been cut within a year or so and I live in a very humid environment. The combination of these things definitely requires me to use a moisture meter for my woodworking projects. This particular moisture meter is actually a pretty good deal given the price point. Yes, there are pros and cons, but I believe the pros far outweigh the cons here.
Pros:
1. Price point - The price of this moisture meter is the true seller here.
2. Scanning (pinless) - It may just be me, but I do not like using meters with pins. Yes, this meter does have pins if that method is desired, however, I find it much easier and quicker to scan the pieces I work with.
3. Multi-material selection - The meter allows for selection of 4 different types of material (softwood, hardwood, masonry, drywall). To be honest, I've only used the hardwood setting here, since I tend to mostly work with hardwood material.
4. Ease of use - The tool itself is easy to use, large buttons, and easy to read screen.

Cons:
1. Inability to further refine material selection - I've used other meters that allow for selecting type of material. For example, black walnut and white oak are quite different from a density perspective. Both these materials are hardwoods, but will yield different results with the meter.
2. Compared to other meters I've used, the meter tends to read a little high - This could be a result of lack of refining material selection.

Summary:
I believe this moisture meter is a good tool to use for woodworking. It will not be as accurate as the more expensive, hundreds-of-dollar meters, but that's the nature of the minimal material selection. It gets the job done and works great especially when you can compare the results to a piece that you know is dry. If the end goal is to find moisture behind a wall, there is no complaint here. I, however, use it for woodworking so I had to compare my results to hardwood that is already dried.
Would I buy it again, yes. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, I would suggest you do the same.
Repeatability
Monroe Tart✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 5, 2023
The meter was easy to use. Instructions were easy to follow, however, for some reason, if I change the approach, for example checking the front side and it recorded 39% but reaching over the top to reach the back side and it records zero%. I can move back to the front and it would show 39% or something similar. It happened several times. Not sure I can trust either number. However on the same side, the numbers were repeatable.
Works on concrete block

I needed to epoxy 84 screw anchors for hurricane fabric into concrete block. Epoxy needed 15% or less moisture content to cure, so fortunately checked the block with this meter and found it was 50%. Used a 1800 watt hairdryer to dry out the holes, and epoxy setup good.
