It is fun using it, but buy extended warranty
POBOX621✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 18, 2023
I love Tap Strap. It took me a month before comfortable using it for typing, but it was fun learning it, too. After two years of use, it broke down; two of the fingers no longer respond. It was because of loose wire. Because of the way it is constructed, I suspect this is a common problem. Unfortunately, they cannot repair it. So I recommend buying an extended warranty if you decide to buy it. The price seems to have doubled since I purchased it. So I am going to wait until the price comes down again (I hope). Meanwhile, I am just going to use a regular Bluetooth keyboard.
Excellent

This is a really quality product for the money it costs. It fits very nicely and is honestly pretty comfortable. The app is helpful and it was pretty easy to learn how to type with it. It takes some getting used to, but so long as you know sign language letters, it's easy to pick up on since most of the letters are based on that. It's discreet, which is helpful when you need to take notes or send a text while still paying attention to what's going on around you. Some of the letters can be easily turned into others though if you're not careful, but there are sensitivity settings which help regulate that a bit. After a while, muscle memory pretty much takes care of everything so you can type surprisingly quick. It charges quickly, and the case itself holds several rounds of charge, which is convenient for trips or other times chargers aren't readily available. It's definitely a conversation starter as well. Plus they're much easier to carry around than a full on keyboard for your device or even a laptop. They even have mouse and scrolling features, both of which are very handy. All in all, a very good product and a very cool piece of technology.
Works Great and very enjoyable to use!

I do highly recommend this product!
I received the Tap Strap 2 yesterday as I was trying to put my daughter to sleep. While holding my sleeping new born in one arm, I started in on tutorials and games to learn how to type the letters of the alphabet. This morning, to my surprise, I was able to complete all of the games again. Quite honestly, I ordered this product with low expectations, but I have been pleasantly surprised. It is extremely sensitive and generate very accurate outputs based on my hand movements. The difficulties I had at first were mostly user error. Trial and error is required for the user to figure out how to hold their hand and how to tap, but when you get it, the Tap Strap 2 works great and taking a few hours to go through the tutorials MANY times, it really is not that hard to start typing.
Of course, in order to type anything really extensive, I will default to a traditional keyboard as I have YEARS of practice with that. But over time, I do think I will come to rely on this device the same way I depend on a keyboard.
As for the mouse, I love having this with my iPad. I typically use my Apple Pencil to avoid touching the screen as much as possible, but then many times I need to type resulting in me touching the screen again. This product alleviates the need to touch the screen.
My review has come after less than a day of use with the Tap Strap 2, but I will update this post if I find myself changing my opinion of this product or if I find myself simply not using it due to learning curve, or any other reason. However, at this time I am feeling very confident I will not need to do so.
Lot of fun to work with, now I just need to find a use for it

I heard about the Tap Strap 2 a while ago but never pulled the trigger on it until it came down in price for the holidays, at which point I just had to have it. I expected that it would take a long while to learn it (like learning the piano) but I got the whole alphabet down in about ten days and was able to type entire paragraphs not long afterward. It's really easy to use, except for one little thing where it sometimes doesn't recognize when I'm moving my thumb (sometimes I want to type an "r" but it thinks I want a backspace). And the air mouse functions just don't work for me, but I don't have a situation where I'll need it as I'm working against a surface most of the time to be able to use the mouse function by turning my thumb.

I don't have a use for the Tap Strap yet, though. I like the concept and I can see where it would be useful on the subway or on an airplane where space is at a premium. Maybe during conferences and meetings where it would be rude to look down at a keyboard or at a smartphone screen. I'm pretty fast at typing so it won't be replacing a keyboard in most situations. But I give it four stars because it's fun and intuitive and I know it will prove useful somewhere. If you like trying out new technology (I bought an Echo Frames at first invite - has almost zero utility for me but I enjoyed playing around with it), you might like trying out a Tap Strap.
For Early Adopters

This is a great idea. Standard keyboards are ill-designed for the modern environment where most computing is not done at a desk. This is probably the most promising replacement I've seen to date. However, if you buy this item, you're buying something about two-steps removed from the prototype. Think early 90's cell phone. Hopefully, this will turn into an iPhone 12 or S20 one day, but it's still got a ways to go.

Some thoughts:
- The apps are good for learning how to type(gesture?).
- It does seem to work well on a leg or the arm of a chair or any available surface.
- The device is still much larger and clunkier than the final version will likely end up.
- The cloth rope between the rings makes putting on the device difficult and cumbersome.
- They wildly overestimate the ability to move your middle and pinkie fingers without moving your ring finger
- While typing text is great and a more mobile option is definitely needed for that purpose, gamers are probably the key to more widespread adoption.

I gave five stars, because I think it performs great for a new idea. That said, it's not yet something I would carry around and use with my tablet or cell phone, which I think is the intention. If it was the Tap Strap 5 or Tap Strap 8, it would probably be two star review.

I am excited to see how this concept evolves.
