Easy, accurate, efficient

An easy to install, easy to use, and apparently accurate way to get the heinous task of Federal income taxes done. Past experience "having somebody else do it for me" wasn't much easier, so this is definitely the way to go. Using a tax prep service, the tax payer has to put all the info together and if you're like me, it's mostly digital info now anyway, and getting it together is the hard part. Tax accountants -- by and large -- just plug in the numbers int their software package after YOU dig them up. And then you pay them $500+ for the privilege.
Have been using this HR Block s/w for nearly 20 years, and have found it to be great for Form 1040, incl. Schedule C. No experience with state b/c no state income here in TX.

I have been using H&R Block tax software since the TaxCut days, somewhere around 2009. I use this software every year and have never had an issue. Depending on my situation during the year, I might purchase a different version but each one has provided exactly what was described and expected. Over the course of the years, I have used both this software and purchased Turbo Tax or used free alternatives just to make a comparison. Each and every time, H&R Block's software has provided the largest refund. Albeit by a small margin, but lower all the same. Much less expensive than hiring a CPA to do my taxes.

Not idiot proof but close

I used Turbo Tax last year and H&R this year. Neither one is idiot proof but both are close especially if you read "all" the questions. Have heard reviews which say you don't need to use the premium versions of either program just because you have dividends and/or capital gains but using the premium makes it easier but more costly. Will probably review both programs again next year and decide based on cost and ease of use.

WAY better than Turbo Tax

I have been using a CPA for years but her rates went up and up and up. I think we paid $550 the last time. Last year, I decided to buy Turbo Tax and give it a try. I actually should have gotten a much bigger state refund and found Turbo Tax was not helpful at all. I spoke to neighbor whom is a CPA and she suggested H&R Block. This program is SO intuitive, gives suggestions that are extremely helpful. I have had NO issues like I did with Turbo Tax. I will not ever buy Turbo Tax again and will stay with H&R block.

Tried Turbo Tax once when I couldn't find Taxcut/HR Block. I suppose it is all what you're used to but I didn't like it. Harder to work with. I like the "shoebox" feature that allows the random entry of receipts and forms. That's how I file after all, randomly.
I get 5 filings so I use one program for everyone in the family. State is included. Never a problem.
