I'm not going to write a full review until the battery compartment in the remote can be opened. This is kind of rediculous. I watched the youtube video, saw the diagram. Am I going to have to return the thing because I can't change the battery? This is almost insulting. For $150 this is awful.

*******updated SOBER review******
I was at last, able to open the battery compartment, after sleeping it off. Still keeping it at 4 stars for finicky battery compartment on remote, a somewhat hefty price for an Android TX box that didn't come with a controller, and that I can't use a web browser with full capabilities.

I previously owned one of the early generations of Roku, the first generation Chromecast and I'm guessing first generation Firestick. I was looking for an upgrade. I liked the idea of getting an Nvidia Shield for a few reasons:
-has chromecast built in, which I find super handy
-is probably future proof because of all the audio and visual stuff
-I think was designed first as a game console and then had the android TV thrown is as secondary thing, so that's cool
-is supported well by Nvidia

Okay, I probably shouldn't have bought this. I have a 720p old LG dumb flatscreen TV. I play games on a Nintendo Switch, I don't own a soundbar, let alone a surround sound speaker system. Clearly, I was not the target user for this thing. Also, it is somewhat pricey at $150.

It runs Android TV as well as it should, but doesn't really do anything to make up for Android TV's shortcomings. One thing I was hoping it would do better than the FIrestick was run a web browser. I can't figure out how to put Chrome on it so I downloaded Puffin and it works the same as it did on the FireStick. This was disappointing because I was under the impression that with higher specs- it has 3GBs of RAM, uses a Tegra X1 Processor, it should be able to do basic web browsing, which it does, but not any better than the $100 less Amazon Firestick.

The other complaint I have is the remote. It's fine except for the placement of the Netflix button and the battery compartment door. Where the netflix button is makes it too easy to press it accidentally. The battery compartment door is difficult to open.

Other than that, the remote is awesome. It has great helft in the hand, and the triangular shape is very nice. It has a feature where as soon as you lift it up, the buttons get backlit. That's handy in the dark. I also like that it can control my dumb TV's volume.

Menus load quickly, there's little to no lag (unless my wifi network is acting up), Transitions are snappy and smooth.

If I ever get around to buying a game controller for this, I'll update the review to discuss the gaming portion. And if I buy a modern 4K TV, I'll be sure to add in how I can see the nostril hairs in the character's noses on TV).

This purchase was a kin to buying an off road Jeep Wrangler for my 10 minute work commute. It wasn't necessary, borderline irresponsible, but perhaps later down the line, I'll use it for it's intended purpose.
Just workz

Installed it and fired it up. No issues.
Works just as described.
32bit Version of the 64bit Larger Shield

I have two 64bit Shield devices I've purchased between 2017 and last year, and I picked this up for my kitchen TV and travel. The idea of buying a 3rd full sized one was a bit painful when I knew I wouldn't use it that often. This is slightly longer and skinnier than a toilet paper tube so it's really good for travel, and I'm glad they still included an ethernet port. I stream my media via upnp from an NAS server, so I'm not concerned about storage. The biggest trade-off here is the lower processing power, so if you want to use this for games or very large video files etc, just kick out the extra few dollars for the larger one and don't worry about it. I had two main pain points with this smaller one: 1) There is no USB port, so I couldn't use my usual alternative remotes/mini keyboards. But I found a mini keyboard that connects via bluetooth and solved that problem. 2) The only reason I found out this was 32bit is because I couldn't get Firefox to sideload - it refused to install like it did just fine on my larger Shields. After a lot of digging I found out it's because Firefox mobile is a 64bit build nowadays, so finding a 32bit version can be harder to run down. If you can find it, great. Otherwise, what worked for me is was installing APK pure and then using it to install Firefox. It's not my favorite app, but I will admit that it can force installs of all kinds of things that refuse to sideload. I'm a bit bewildered on why Nvidia couldn't put a 64bit processor in this, but I guess you need to draw the price value line somewhere. Outside of that, I feel like I'm using my regular Shields for nearly everything else.

I've gone through various iterations of Android-based TV/streaming boxes, aiming for low cost with corresponding limited life. I've been pleased with them at first, but they age - some apps work less well, some stop - and I have concern at the functional yet aged e-waste we all generate, so I looked to update the FW in one of those boxes. Not calling any brands out specifically; it was a fail - many sites offer some potential for SW updates but too many broken links led me to give up.
Enter Nvidia, a known name and good reputation. Higher price tag, but if I can get longer useful life then maybe worth it. I received it today, plugged in as a direct replacement (HDMI + RJ45), it updated, loaded Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, BritBox, Kodi (for NAS SMB playback) and other apps all working flawlessly.
Display and remote are excellent, form factor and connections are odd being opposite ends of a tube, but it works well exactly as hoped.
So far so good. Hoping that Nvidia will continue to support my investment in them since it's twice the price that others can produce similar function in less well polished version. I'm considering my next one as Pro version (with USB) so the family can use it on the big screen.
I have to add - there's no reason EVERY remote control can't be this good! It just works! It's solid, the buttons are right, and no pointing necessary. There are others like this, but there are so many that are not! I'm not the biggest fan of the triangular shape, but despite that it really works well - the remote is 20% of the experience unless it doesn't work well then it becomes 90%+! This one gets it right.
