Perfect fit for craftsman Ys4500.

Bought this for a 2008 Craftsman Lawn Tractor, model 917.287220 Installation is not hard, but there are a couple of key points. For this model, it IS necessary to remove the fuel tank (2-3/8" Hexhead screws), but not anything else. YouTube video says you must remove blade engagement assembly and lever, but this model just requires removal of the spring on the lever mechanism and then the connector will slide off. Video also says you need to remove the mower deck, but you don't. Just unhook the spring on the deck idler pulley. There are two clip assemblies (one at top near lever assembly and one on bottom near rear tire). The hardest part is getting the clips on the existing cable free from these assemblies. In theory, you squeeze them w pliers, but this is hard to do in a cramped space. Once you have old cable removed, connect the end near the engagement lever first. If you connect bottom spring first, you'll have a hard time getting the connector at the top in the spot it needs to go because there won't be enough slack. Reconnect spring on the engagement assembly so it holds the connector in place. Put the two clips in their brackets/holders where you removed them for old cable. Then, connect the idler pulley spring. Note that the idler pulley assembly will move so you can connect the spring more easily. Once spring is connected, you can replace the fuel tank and should be good to go.

Tip: Take pictures of the idler pulley and engagement lever assembly before you take them apart so you know where everything goes! The cable is a lot longer than you really need, so securing it loosely with cable ties in the part of motor compartment closest to driver will help prevent it from coming loose and getting caught in deck belts or pulleys or crimped by the mower engine cover.

Thank you for the fast shipping. I ordered the incorrect deck engagement cable and received two. This 3rd one is correct.

This was a bit complicated to figure out installation, have to remove gas tank. Also notice that the minute you use it engaged the kill switch on mower so we had to change that to make it work. We were able to accomplish that change and mower works great.
