they fit like regular pants and the waist tightens down with velcro so you don't need a belt.

all of the stitching is good. pants feel heavy duty. pads are not very hard plastic, more of a reinforced foam. they are comfortable and appear to be well made. i am a husky 230 pounds at five foot ten, the 40x30s fit nice with room for shorts or long johns underneath. they are however comfortable enough to be worn on their own. the pads in the knees do appear to be too low until you are in the riding position. i have only tried them on however they feel as though they will be very sturdy for riding...especially at the low price they are charging. the snaps and zippers all seem good and there are even vents for hot days. the liner does not remove.
