These surge protectors work pretty well. They do what they're supposed to. The only drawback I have is that they're pretty bulky. If you already have cables coming from your standard outlet, and have furniture butted up against that outlet, this will add another 1.5" gap so just be mindful of that.

I haven't had a power surge (at least not that I am aware of) however, having this hooked up gives me some piece of mind. The surge protector is made of cheap light shiny plastic. It isn't aesthetically pleasing, but its hidden behind furniture and tv stand and such.
