Ac units work great, customer service is without question the absolute best ive seen in awhile!
Matthew Ketelsen✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 9, 2023
The media could not be loaded. I am writing today not only to talk about how fantastic the product is, but what was even more impressive is the company that is selling it!

I ordered one of these hOme portable ac units and received it within about 4 days. The box looked like it had been through a war zone, but we all know by know that shippers just dont give a S anymore so that was to be expected. The product was not damaged and nothing inside the box was missing or damaged, so the company is packing the product properly! Which i appreciate! It took me a couple hours to configure the door shroud for the exhaust, but that was because i had to custom make it for a slider door install so there was some crafting to be done to adapt it to my situation. Once the shroud was made, hooking up the ac unit was a piece of cake! You simply connect the hose to the shroud, slip the other end into the fitting on the unit and hit the power button! Thats about it for the process of getting the unit going, extremely easy! Installing into the proper window should take no more than a half hour until your blowing nice refreshing cool air! The unit works awesome, better than expected! Its extremely powerful and the air is very cool, i have to shut it off periodically throughout the day because i get cold! That means its totally doing its job!

About 30 minutes into having it fired up, the compressor started making a faint screeching sound... This unit is advertised as being a very quiet unit, and it is, dont get me wrong. Obviously there is something wrong with the compressor on this one particular unit i got, no biggie! I contacted the company through amazon and told them what was going on. Within 12 hours i got a response, which is fantastic! They wanted a couple of easy to find bits of info off the unit and my order number through amazon to confirm the purchase which was no biggie to get. I sent that info through and within another 12 hours they responded and took care of everything, no sniff no fuss! It was what i call a no touch return and replacement! They handled the whole thing and replaced my unit, i had a new one in hand 3 days later. I didnt have to remake my window attachment either which was nice as it was pretty custom made and i didnt really want to have to remake it lol! The new unit blows icy cold air and the unit isnt much louder than a small fan noise. Im actually about 20 feet away from it right now and can feel the cool air circulating all around me... Its fabulous!

I cant say enough good things about this ac unit and more importantly, the company that is selling them on amazon. Thank you so much to the company, you have made a customer and a product hype man for life! I will tell everyone i know about these units and your fantastic customer service!!!
Noise Hype: Fan strength is more a whisper, hint than torrent of coolness

A/C comes with a slightly longer vent hose than unit it replaced. However, this hose as with previous unit, needs to be thermally-insulated a bit better. The further the hose is extended/stretched the more heating it radiates into the room - and at the worst place - the back of the unit where the return air-intake ducts are located. So the unit must work harder because the air going into the system is hotter than the general ambient room temperature.

Power Cord is a good length (but wouldn't complain if it were 18" longer).

DO NOT EVER USE AN EXTENSION CORD not even a heavy-duty construction grade ex-cord. The cord will likely overheat at a minimum or catch fire. These portable units pull a considerable amount of power.

Yes, it's quiet but that is somewhat due to the fact the fan speed, even on high, is anemic. The chilled air only blows in the up direction towards the ceiling. I'm no engineer but this product claims to be able to comfortably chill a room of +/- 500 ft.². To do that it would need much more fan power to achieve that efficiently. If you live south of Route 66 you'll need to supplement with a powerful quiet (Vernado) expensive fan if "noise" level and cooling are paramount to you.

20/20: I should have upgraded & stuck to the other brand (8,OOO to 14,OOO BTU). The trade off noise-to-function is not worth it in Texas. But I can see why those living further north would be thoroughly pleased. It is a nice model and only slightly misses the mark.
An excellent choice

Our downstairs AC went out and we needed an immediate solution for our main floor, which is roughly 1700 sq. ft.. We started with an LG that cost $100 more than this unit (from our local big box hardware store). The LG was pretty and small, but totally wonky to operate. It relied on the remote for controlling the unit (a huge negative in my opinion), and simply didn't work. It never shut off, even with the timer.

We returned it and went with this unit due to the great reviews. Plus it was $100 cheaper and a bit more powerful. We weren't a fan of the white, but it might be perfect for certain rooms. I wish they offered a darker color... I.e., charcoal, gray.

Here are some notes from our experience:

- installation was simple. The corrugated tube is long, and I particularly like the way it exits the window insert as a full circle, not a narrowed oval. Its a larger tube than the LG... looks like 6" or so. That should help the efficiency. The tube is a little too flexible though... it will sag to the floor which hurts airflow. The LG had a stiffer tube that held its shape better. The window insert is simple and effective, but we had to cut one piece to make it fit our 32"W window. Kind of surprising, since that's a common size. But I preferred this to the LG system, which was 4 pieces that were very confusing and left air leaks. I was surprised that there was no grate on the exit side of the tube... to keep bugs and birds out. We bought some window screen and glued it to the outside of the outlet, which worked perfectly.

- it's very quiet... much quieter than the LG. I don't think it blows as hard as the LG, but it blows hard enough and I prefer quiet over air speed. It keeps our 500 sq. ft. Main room very cool and the rest of the first floor (1700 sq. ft.) plenty comfortable (we use ceiling fans to help move the air around).

- IT HAS CONTROLS ON THE UNIT ITSELF. This is simply a must in my opinion. Remotes get lost, break, etc, etc, and I wouldn't want my AC to become useless if the remote breaks. The LG had only the simplest controls on the unit itself. A negative of the Homelabs system is that when you power up the remote it completely overrides the settings on the unit itself. You kind of have to decide whether you'll use the remote or the direct buttons... they don't get along with each other, and the device can get confused if you try to use both (at one point we had to reset the machine because some of the controls weren't responding after using the remote and the direct buttons together "“ like most electronics you can reset it by plugging it in while holding the on button down for 3 seconds or so). We favor the direct buttons and don't use the remote.

- the controls are well thought out and function well. The timer can be set for both start up and shut down (the LG could only do one or the other) and it can be set in 30-minute increments (the LG was 60-minutes). The unit will not shut off after the set temperature is reached, which I find odd. The LG was the same. Both units only slow down... perhaps only the fan is running? But I would prefer it if the entire unit shut down when the temperature is reached.

- customer service is prompt, pleasant and helpful. We had a shipping issue and they were quick to offer help without hesitation. A definite plus here compared to LG (which has earned a reputation for miserable customer service).

All in all were very happy ... it's a great portable AC and notably better than an LG.

UPDATE: we liked it so much we bought a second one... both are running flawlessly every day and have gotten us through the hot southern summer. We'll get our main HVAC unit fixed in the winter when rates are cheaper.

UPDATE 2: when we bought our first one there was maybe 15 reviews... by the second one there was 50 reviews. Now there's over 300 and it's still getting great reviews. That says something I think.

I thought I'd mention one thing we had to deal with (not a negative, just something to be aware of). We live in Georgia, which can be sweltering hot and humid. If we ran this unit all day we would occasionally see evidence of a small amount of water that had leaked from beneath (we weren't running it in dehumidify mode). I have to stress this was not a lot of water, and did no damage to our wood floors, but we decided to place the unit on a plastic tray just in case. We used a clear lid from one of those storage bins that we had lying around... worked perfectly, and actually looked like it was part of the device.

Still 5 stars for both our devices... they will pay for themselves in the savings we can get from shopping around for AC service in early spring (it's crazy competitive down here).

UPDATE 3: Just bought a third, all working great. Some day we'll get that main HVAC fixed, but no time to think about it now
Great product, poor customer service

The air conditioner itself is a great product. The set up was by no means difficult. Anyone who has the ability to read will be able to put it together. While running it is the quietest air conditioner I've had. The noise level is the equivalent to the noise level of a fan. You definitely will have no problem sleeping with it on. I would purchase this before you know the weather is going to start to heat up as the manual instructs you to leave your unit standing upright outside of the box for 24 hours before plugging it in. So you won't be able to use it until the next day. I use it in a 20x20 room with large windows and it cools it effortlessly. In fact my room gets cold and I later have to turn it off for awhile. Keep in mind that's in 88 degree weather in Los Angeles,CA. I don't have to deal with extreme heat as I don't live in the desert. I would have to say this air conditioner is worth it's price tag considering you get the 2 year warranty, I also purchased the 4 year warranty add on. The air conditioner is a great product no complaints there. The only problem I had was upon unboxing it I found that there was damage to the outside casing of my unit it looked as if it had been banged up and possibly dropped. There were scratches all along my unit. I understand it is a heavy piece of equipment so it's understandable if it was dropped in transport. I was more disappointed in the fact that the seller was unresponsive in my emailing of them about the issue. It's been almost a week since emailing them. And the website says to expect a 2 day response. I still have not heard anything from them. So I'm glad I have the warranty. It's a great buy just make sure you get the warranty as it doesn't look like you'll get any help from the seller in case something happens.
Heavy Duty Stand Alone AC Unit Great for Georgia Summers
Louzee B.✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 9, 2023
I live in an area of Georgia that gets pretty brutal summers, think high 90s and low 100s. And it so happens I live in a home built in the 1890s, so although I have central air, the house is lacking in insulation and has way too many windows allowing for more sunlight and heat than I care to have. I bought this AC to alleviate some of that and keep my electric bill down. Installation is easy enough for a novice like me. I keep this unit in my living room, approximately 500 square feet and can cool the area to 76 degrees Fahrenheit, with my ceiling fan on and blinds shut, in about 20 minutes. I don't keep my central air on anymore, as I can turn this on only when I'm using my living room. It is noisy, much like the sound of a hotel room AC unit, but I don't much mind. The remote is easy to use. The unit itself is pretty large and bulky and takes a bit of space and works best in the middle-ish of a room. So do keep that in mind. Also, this "could" trip my breaker if I have too many things on. Otherwise, I'm happy with this unit overall and it saves me a lot of money. Electric bill during the summer for my area in Georgia averages to $120 a month. And this is for a 800 sq ft apartment that struggles to maintain 78 degrees with central air. This keeps my living room cool and pleasant when I need it to be and drops that bill to about $50-$60.

Update 6/10/20

Still a phenomenal unit. It did trip my breaker, but I was warned this was going to happen. I also had too many things on lol This time last year (May 10 - June 11, 2019) keeping central air on at 78 degrees, electric bill was $103.40 (used 742 kWh, $3.23/day). For this upcoming billing cycle (May 12 - June 12) used central air twice at night (when BF comes over) otherwise I only keep this on when I'm using the living room, estimated bill (according to Georgia Power) $42 - $47 (249 kWh, $1.49/day)
