3rd Summer and Love It
Jason M. Waskiewicz✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 12, 2024
I'm starting my third summer with this unit. This 8000 BTU unit replaced a 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner. Right away I saw three major differences. The first was I got back some floor space in my very small house. The second was that the house became a lot quieter. The third was that this new air conditioner runs a lot less and keeps the house a lot cooler. Window space gained was minimal.

My home has 672 square feet (about 63 m^2). This air conditioner isn't rated for that much, but I don't have an open floorplan. In the hot weather, I can close the door to the bedroom, and the kitchen is through a narrow opening. The result is that I am comfortable. When I cook, I feel the temperature difference.

Most of the time, I run this air conditioner on "quiet" mode. Since I have a YouTube channel, I frequently film in front of it. I used to have to turn off the portable. I can actually record with this running. Nice not to be dripping sweat in summer when filming my videos!

I have this unit in my living room. At night, I can usually open up the windows to sleep (I live in North Dakota, so temperature vary a lot). But I have also discovered that if I run the fan on my furnace, I can cool the house off in the evening using this unit. The furnace circulates the air between the rooms, and the air conditioner cools it. As long as I'm comfortable with the 70s, it works on those really hot nights or the occasional night when my neighbor has a late night party.

Another nice feature is that this fits well. My parents actually bought me a traditional window unit. Many of those do not fit my narrow windows. This one does fit. Also, many require additional support so that they don't fall out of the window. This one balances well. So, sadly my parents' gift didn't work. But now they have a window unit that actually works great in their house!

The one feature I wish this had is the ability to pull air from outside. That is perfect when the house is hot, the outside is not, and you don't really need air conditioning.

I should also note that I save a fortune by closing my curtains in the morning. I needed a paper clamp to hold them shut. In the afternoon, I pull solar shades in the west-facing rooms. This really make s a huge difference in the air conditioning bill. If I couldn't do this, the unit might not be good enough.
Great AC unit for windows that slide open left and right.

I been looking for a good AC unit for a large bedroom where I setup my work from home office in.
Majority of in window units are for the type of windows that you open up and down and mine opens left and right.
After lots of research online I decided on the Soleus Air 8000 BTU AC unit.
I saw the other reviews how the units were damaged in shipping and sending a unit back for exchange/repair was not fun. I order anyways and box is huge and very heavy.
Luckily mine was not damaged. I followed the directions let the box set right side up level for 24 hours before installing. Once unboxed the unit is no where as heavy as the box was. I was able to easily pick it up and install it in my window. I also purchased the Soleus Air Sliding Window Kit (which I think is a bit over priced) But I'm not handy enough to make my own. Oh did I mention I live in an apartment so I needed something that I would not be modifying the window or window sill to install an AC. This unit is great, very quiet in the Queit mode and cools my room in 15 minutes or less from 80-85 degrees to 70-68 degrees on the lowest fan setting. I did add some extra vibration dampening to the rubber adjustable legs on the outside of the unit just to be sure less vibration and noise is transferred to downstairs neighbor. But no complaints from them. I asked them if they noticed any new noise since I had the Soleus for 2 weeks now and they did not notice at all. Also why I didn't go with one of those portable AC units with the hoses going out the window. Well those hoses get very hot and transfer heat back into your room making it a less efficient system ( I know because I owned one in the past) and I did want those ugly hoses either. I would recommend the Soleus Air 8000 BTU AC unit.
Excellent air conditioner!

I purchased the 6,000 BTU unit with the intention of replacing the 240v in-wall unit (which had never worked) with this one. To be fair, I bought the new A/C months ago, intending to make the swap in early spring. But dread of the project reinforced my tendency to procrastinate, so I didn't attack this until August.

Removing the old in-wall unit and the exterior sleeve was a bear, as someone (I assume a previous owner who installed it) decided to use a lot of that spray-foam during the install, which really made extricating a task. But I got it out!

I purposely chose this A/C because it's a saddle-type, having all the noisy parts on the other side of the wall. Also, the weight was a consideration since I would be heaving it up on my own.. And the unit is Wi-Fi enabled, so it can be linked to our system and cell phones (an excellent feature when one's spouse has a habit of misplacing all remotes).
The A/C services a large area: our kitchen and dining room are open and connected, and this side of the house faces the south, which gets quite warm during the summer months.

Installation of this new A/C was straightforward, though I didn't use most of the included accessories since I installed it as an in-wall unit rather than in a window. I did ensure the unit is level front-back and side-side, as directed in the instructions. There is a drain plug on the low left side of the unit- the instructions says to remove the plug and drain out any condensate prior to putting it away for the season- I wasn't sure if I would need to route the drain outside (the drain is on the inside portion of the unit, not the outside), but I was prepared to do just that. It gets quite warm and humid here, and even so, I have NOT seen any drips or condensation on the unit. So far, I've seen no reason to do any drain line routing.

Linking the unit to the Soleus phone app (which is very intuitive, by the way) was quick and easy! I use Android, my wife uses Apple, and the app works perfectly on both. The A/C also seamlessly linked to our wireless home system.

The controls on the unit are touch-sensitive so don't go pushing them- just touch them (a nice touch, Soleus! ).

After having used this unit for awhile now, I can say that it is excellent! It's freakishly quiet, it keeps that large area nicely cool, quckly cools the area if it is warm already,, and we have NEVER felt the need to use it in any mode other than ECO. I wish I'd installed this sooner, and I also wish the window in our bedroom was a bit bigger as I'd put one of these in it instead of the mini unit we have in there now (and it's a LOT louder!).

If you're looking for a window unit, or even as an in-wall unit like I did (see the picture) you can't go wrong with this one. It is SUPER quiet (by FAR the quietest unit I've ever heard), well-designed, and is high quality. Soleus, you've hit a home run with this one! I'll report back in a couple of years with an update.
Great for small spaces

I lived without AC in my tiny house for a couple years, trying everything to try to keep the space cool for me and my dog in the NY heat. Our windows are about 22" wide, which is too small for most window units. As a renter, I was negotiating with my landlord for a lengthy mini-split installation, but was getting nowhere (and was being quoted anywhere between $3000-5000!). Third heatwave of 2021 hit, and I'd had it"” I can escape the heat at work or in the car, but what about my dog? I've been looking at this unit for awhile because of its unique low profile. Since we have small windows, I didn't want to rob the house of even more light by blocking it with an AC unit. This unit, while it says it needs a minimum of 24", fit just great. That's with an additional 2-3" of additional space on either side! I was able to install this by myself (after letting it rest for a full 24 hours after dropping it in place to make sure the compressor had time to settle). I also read many reviews about the water buildup, so I really made sure to tilt mine a bit extra out the window (toward the ground outside) since we have a lot of humidity. I've had zero problems with leaking or the tank filling. I have washed the filter once after a couple months because we have a lot of gnats around and they tend to want to gather around it. I did notice a slight odor of something like plastic after running it the first time, but since then, nothing. It's efficient and it cools the space really fast even on eco mode. Best part"” I've set up alerts on my phone for when the temperature starts to rise in the house, so I can turn it on remotely so the pup never gets too uncomfortable when I'm away. It's been a great purchase. I'm a little nervous about storing it for the winter, but I hope to keep using it for years to come!

I'm not sure why the rating above asks to rate the unit on "warmth." It's an air conditioner, so shouldn't the rating be for coolth? 😋 Anyway.

On the plus side, the thing is really quiet. In Quiet Mode it's almost silent. And it cools pretty well. Plus, the concept is pretty neat although we haven't tried to open the window.

On the minus side: Installation. The listing says it'll span 11 inches, which is exactly what our 1900-built house has from the nose of the stool to the outside of the sill. But it didn't fit. I ended up sawing about 3/8" off the sill to get the thing to drop into place. Once I got it into the window (and the thing is huge, really, it requires two people to install) the thing was pointing to the room's ceiling because there was nothing to hold it away from the outside wall (the bottom of the exterior portion sits well below the sill). The unit comes with threaded posts (both long and short) and plastic bumpers that screw into the inside rear corners of the unit, to support it against the exterior wall. It's an elegant solution but the posts/bumpers have to be inserted before the unit is fit over the sill--which reduces the real width to maybe 9 inches. Maybe I could have tilted it in enough to get the posts into the holes with the unit on the sill, but at 4-stories up I wasn't about to hang out of the window to try. I ended up shoving a length of 2x4 between the inside back of the unit and the wall, which got it to a pretty acceptable angle. The weight of the unit holds the timber in place. Not the solution the manufacturer would prefer, but that's the only way I could make it work. (And I get to say, "Damn, I"m good!")
The installation instructions are pretty clear but there are a few places I had to make an educated guess.
The front of the unit drops down about a foot below the window opening on the inside. We had to move a piece of furniture that was under the window, but that wasn't a big issue.

In the end, this is the quietest air conditioner I've ever heard--or not heard. It's also the most expensive I've ever purchased. It's a clever concept and hopefully the price will drop a bit. Now that I know the installation hassles--and someone whose walls are thinner than mine probably won't have a problem--I'd consider a second.
