I just wanted a working can opener. The ones we had were so old& practically useless, they killed my hands when I tried to use them. My husband was very stubborn& didn't want me to buy a new one (why buy a new one when you have two equally horrible old ones, right?🤣).

Safely removes can lids, but ineffective magnet

This is overall a good product; it safely automatically removes can lids, leaving a smooth edge on both the can and the lid. I will note that the magnetic can lid removal claim has been totally false in my experience. The strength of the magnet doesn't seem strong enough to overcome the suction of the sealed can, but since the can lid is removed smooth-edged, there's no concern about getting cut removing it manually.

I love making chili but soooo many cans to open! I find as I age my hand strength isn't what it used to be. I remember my mom had an under-cabinet mounted automatic can opener so thought I'd look to see what was available today. I found this cool looking unit that didn't have to be bolted into my new cabinets. You just sit the opener on the can and it does all the work! I bought this twice. I really wanted it to work so when I bought the first one and it broke, I bought another. Although it does stay clean and cuts the top, the magnet does not lift the lid off the can. I am sort of happy with it and still prefer this over the old fashioned can opener.
