First a Cat Shelter....then a Garden Shed !
bettehead✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 18, 2023
I originally purchased this playhouse for use as a cat shelter for one of my elderly feral cats who was having some mobility issues, and was just plain curmudgeonly. I have other shelters for the ferals but I thought this might be a little easier for him to get in and out with pet doors I was planning to cut through the sides. Unfortunately my little guy passed away and the other cats use a different area. This Playhouse then became a garden shed and also a place to put bird feeders, hooks Etc.

I only gave it three stars for sturdiness because I don't know how it would survive with kids knocking around inside it. Maybe it would be okay, but I'm not sure. I painted both sides of each piece before assembling with green waterproof stain and I really like the look. I wanted it to be weatherproof. I put real peel and stick Roofing on the top and also a ridge vent to keep out any leaks. From the inside I caulked every space with silicone and then applied foam insulation and painted the inside. I opted to purchase the optional floor the floor and I think that's a good idea. Together all of these things really enhanced the rigidity of the structure.

I placed it on two sheets of plywood which I painted to match the structure and raised it on brick so that the other cats could go under it.

I did not like the window design because it offended my sense of symmetry. Lol. I therefore took the windows apart and made a more traditional style with the wooden pieces. The white trim is waterproof paint.

To keep the door shut and keep animals from going in I painted a brick to match the playhouse and put felt pads on one side of it where it butts up against the door. It nicely keeps the door closed and it's not obvious.

Overall the playhouse is a nice addition to the yard and will suit the purpose well. As you can see it's quite customizable as well.
Cute house with some improvements Ammended

Very small so that kids will grow out of it rapidly. I bought it to mount it on a platform for a backyard playground. I lifted the roof so I have a one foot space between the wall and roof, like a fort for the bigger kids. I cut a space in one side where they go down a slide. I painted it and used salvaged wood flooring to make a kind of shingle roof. Some of these ideas could be used to improve a packaged version. I will include a picture when finished. Almost finished, painted to handle SoCal sun and out a small play kitchen and cabinet for play dishes add a pail on wench and kids can raise and lower stuff. House made it easier sense I had to build the rest of the playground from scratch. Amazon has swings connectors for a-frame etc. Total I spent 2,000 on what would have been 3,500 in a kit and it is much better longevity quality. That is what I did with the COVID quarantine.
DIY refectory duck house
MPMNPA✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 11, 2023
This worked out perfectly for us as a duck house. Much cheaper than a coop that you would buy from a store and more practical for ducks because it doesn't have the perches or high rise walk entrance you seek in a coop for chickens. It was also fun to renovate using extra materials we had after doing other projects around the property!

I definitely think it is too small for a toddler (would last maybe a year) and certainly wouldn't work well as a shed to store pots or garden items. Would be cute as a decorative item if you had a large garden. However, it has been great as a duck house and I have no regrets. I did reinforce the floor with leftover bathroom flooring and painted the outside and added a metal roof"¦ I wanted it to hold up to the mess that ducks make and weather. It's been a couple of months now and the structure is doing very well and the ducks love it. I would pick this over a standard chicken coop anytime if you are looking for a duck house and something that is cute for the yard!

Ordered this with the intention of using it as a chicken coop but decided on a different direction for that. My kids pretty much claimed this as soon as I put it together lol. My daughter is 5 and pretty tall for her age but she loves playing in here. My nephew who is 7 and short loves playing as well. Size wise it fits my 3 year old perfectly. I painted with exterior paint, added shingles to the roof and added a pallet floor. Honestly worth the price. It would be cute as is indoors with no modifications also.
Makes a great house for our ducks!

I was looking for housing for our 4 ducks and the best I could find were chicken coops. Guess what folks? Duck can't get up into chicken coops because they don't have clawed talons like chickens do. Plus, ducks don't roost so the need of a roosting area and box is not necessary. Then I found this and our ducks love it!
The plastic on the windows keeps most of the rain out and the door shuts nicely for us to keep our duck in at night to protect them from predators. The roof leaks considerably though, so we put shingles on it, which was a fairly inexpensive fix.
This was a perfect find!
