I mean, a massage machine will never really be that great. I still long for a real massage by someone who understands the direction the muscles run in. Obviously this is not going to do that, it can only go in circles. But, it does live up to my expectations, and when you're desperate to work out some knots, or loosen up tight muscles, it's something (a better something than most massage gadgets I've tried). Be sure to try both direction options, that makes a huge difference. Depending on the angle you have it, one direction feels like it's pushing in, and the other feels like it pushing out. I barely feel the heat when it's on (but it's cold in my house in winter, so I may have too many clothes on), and there isn't any lights or anything to confirm when it IS on.
I like the arm sling design for adjusting and applying pressure. Designed for neck and shoulders, but can work down the back. I originally go it for lower back pain (from menstrual cramps) and it does help. You could also use on legs or whatever else, just need to experiment with different methods for what you're trying to work.

I bought this for a gift exchange at a family event, everyone fought over it, and once it was all said and done it was taken out and used immediately, and everyone loved it so much that they ordered their own right then and there! I returned this massager although it worked very well but it was irritating my neck pain. Maybe massager wasn't gentle enough for me? Would probably work for most muscle aches though
