Assymbly was pretty easy. Directions were pretty good. Just don't get ahead of the instructions and you will do just fine.

As far as actually using your CNC (no matter what size), there is a learning curve as for the software goes. There are several very good YouTube videos I would suggest you watch that will help you choose a CNC from and what particular software to choose to work with it...

This technology has come a long way. Integrating the Arduino controller with this product is a great idea. Setup went very smooth, although it required me to download an old .NET framework (massive download). After installing the software that was provided on a USB stick everything worked without any expert intervention. The intended owner (this was a gift) is able to use the device without me being there to work out every step. I was worried as lasers are a big step up from the hand crank engraving device she has been using.

We only used the laser part, it was too cold to be anywhere that we could use a wood drill (i.e. outside). I will try to update after we run that a few times.

Other than the large .NET download, you might want to have some glue residue remover and some paper towels to wipe up aluminum shavings left over from manufacturing process.

I bought this kit to get into cnc design and milling. I wanted to make custom engravings and other cool stuff. For the price it is an amazing kit. Keep in mind it came right from china so directions aren't perfect but I have a pretty good mechanical aptitude so I was able to set it up just fine. They included everything to run the machine on a flash drive. (program to run 3 axis milling and 2 axis laser engraving)

Overall the only complaints are that the clamps to hold down your material are poorly designed. Other than that it is awesome.

UPDATE: removing a star, the more I use it the looser the Z axis gets. Now has a lot of wobble not just up and down like it did new but side to side, the bearings and rods seem to have developed this. I am now designing new brackets and carriage to use linear rails and a ball screw, that should firm everything up. Also only using 3 bars for the spoilboard does not do it, the mdf likes to bow even with having faced it. I'll be adding 2 more 2020 bars to it to remedy this. IF you buy this expect to have to do "upgrades" soon after getting it together.

the z axis has a bit of play in it that causes issues at times, working on a fix for this. Even though the machine comes mostly assembled you are going to want to place it on a flat surface and loosen EVERY screw and make sure it is all square. mine was so far out of square on foot was a solid 1/8 off the table. No documentation for the controller board is available, but with a little playing around it can be flashed with the arduino IDE set as an adruino pro, so I was able to make a few firmware tweaks and flash to the latest version of GRBL. But With a little bit of setup this is a really good machine. Now with the negatives out of the way lets say something good. For the price the machine is solid metal construction, no acrylic plates like others of similar price. the 500w motor is a great upgrade from the 300w that others also come with. For the cost I expected some issues needing to be addressed, but I did not expect it to be as solid as it is!

Initial experience with this product was somewhat frustrating: loading software, etc. But I have to say their customer service after the sale has been exceptional. There's definitely a learning curve to use this product, their documentation could be more complete, but they have been very helpful and respond quickly to your inquiries. I've made several products with it and I am satisfied with the product and very satisfied with their service.
