I'm not going to lie, I'm starting to become jaded with all this China GARBAGE we're getting online. I'm not saying that because I dislike China, I'm saying that because I dislike this growing pile of hundreds of dollars worth of Amazon returns I have of stuff THAT DOESN'T WORK!
When I plugged this all in, I couldn't get it to work to save my life. The controller would not read the sensor. Tried after work several nights in a row to get it working. The light on the sensor was just flashing constantly, nothing in the manual about it, I assumed it was a pairing issue.
Yesterday, I started to box it up. I figured what the hell, I'm never going to drop it off since the closest ups that accepts Amazon returns is over an hour away so I began mentally preparing to reverse engineer this and build my own sensor. So I plugged everything back in, AND IT WORKED! I DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING!!!
It worked all day. Until we came in for the night and I went to check it and NOTHING!!!! A big old fat NOTHING BURGER!!! WTH!!!???
To the manual I went. This time however, I payed attention. Didn't find the cause in the manual, but I did notice that this manual was clearly written by an actual American. Not just someone with good English, but an actual plain English American. At one point, the writer tells us to "Use common sense". Ok, let's try that.
The sensor has a solar panel. I was checking this at night, with "charged" batteries. The sensor light was flashing fast at me, but that is not in the manual. Also not in the manual, is what the sensor does to alert you of dead batteries. Flash fast, maybe??? Ok, it was working earlier and it's not now. Now that it's night. Damn. One star for a functioning solar panel...
Yeah long story short i was using dead batteries. Face palm.
Note to self: Watch for that flashing reset button on the sensor.
Now that it worked, I was able to inspect the workings. At first, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED. There appeared to be a black mask painted over the lcd screen. I could see graphics plainly displayed behind the make of I looked at the right angle. Are you kidding me? So, do I need to buy the "bigger" version to be able to see everything the lcd is showing? THAT'S CRAP!!!
But wait, let's "use common sense". Let's check the manual: in the manual it shows switching between graphics on the prediction area. How is that possible if a mask is painted over? I could clearly see the graphics already displayed behind the mask. Reluctantly, I went to the settings and tried to switch between graphics. And guess what? Much to my amazement, IT WORKED! The "painted" mask moved out of my way!
What does this mean? Simply put, the engineers figured out a way to make what appears to be an lcd screen last a lifetime without the effects of burn in, dead pixels, etc. How did they do it? The image is not an lcd screen. It's just a picture with a light behind it. The actual lcd screen is on FRONT of it! It displays black to block out the irrelevant parts of the pic, and turns off parts of the screen to bring them back into view. THIS IS GENIUS!!!!
Yes, there's still things that feel cheap like the fact that each button on top is actually two buttons, but both buttons do the same thing.. so it makes two button one button.. maybe this is also for reliability? In case one button wears out? You're still pressing another one? If so, that's actually really really brilliant. I didn't even think about that until just now. Until just now, it kind of seemed extremely stupid. But now, I think I might steal that idea lol.
I want to start a company building electronics like this. Not to make money, and not even to build electronics, but to be able to provide people like you and I with stuff that actually works. For a long time. After looking at this unit, seeing how they made everything so you could take it apart and clean the sensors, replace consumables, etc, I am going to say that not only am I VERY pleased with my purchase, I HIGHLY recommend this product.
In fact, because of all the little things I have uncovered through this such as their engineering techniques, very well put together and HIGHLY informative manuals (unless your batteries are doing, that is..), I'm going to say that this manufacturer in general should be held to a very high regard if their other products are held to the same standards as this. And yes, I have considered the fact that this is made with plastics. I have inspected the assembly and found no visible weak points in the structures of the parts, and if a log knocks it down in high winds than I can't really fault the plastic for that.
Just buy it. If you are constantly having to watch for wind or adverse conditions this is where it's at.

Good initial thoughts...

Setup and installation are straight forward. I had the unit up and functioning in less than 20 minutes. I was looking for a mid priced unit that provided basic functions which in my case was wind speed, wind direction, rain fall and temperature. I have two initial points of feedback. First the mounting pole is rectangular and doesn't allow for true North / South setup of the unit if you're mounting it to something that won't allow for that true up. Secondly, the inside temperature is running four degrees warmer than actual in the house. Two side notes I have the receiver and outside unit roughly 125 yards apart and I have no issues. One potential issue will be the battery replacement on the outside unit. The battery compartment is on the underside of the unit which won't make it easy to replace without taking off the unit from the pole each time.
Very Nice and Effective Weather Station

We got this weather station system to replace a very old one that finally gave out.
Installation was easy, and the mounting bracket, arm, and base give you lots of options for horizontal or vertical, on either a flat surface or on a pole. Since we had the last on up high on a pole above the fence, we did the same thing here is it worked out very easily.
The base unit readout screen is nice, good contrast, lots of information on it, more than we had on the last one. It hasn't rained yet, so we haven't seen how that works yet, but the rest of it has been effective, in comparison to our neighbors and some other readouts we have available nearby. Setting all the options along with date, time, and measurement/unit preferences was quick and easy.
Getting the station and base unit to link up was simple and easy without any problems following the quick start instructions.
Since we got this on the recent Prime Day at a nice sale price, it was a great deal and fantastic bargain.

I bought this weather station for my husband. I expected it to be delivered in about 5 days but I was pleased when it was delivered the day after placing my order. Since I didn't buy this item for myself, I asked him for his impression about the product.
This is what he thought:
Caution! Make sure you know where and how you are going to mount this unit: Its post is rectangular and, once the base is mounted, the main sensor cannot be rotated to align "North" so that the wind vane performs correctly. Other than that, the unit gives good, basic, information and seems to be accurate. The instructions are correct English but a little wordy, so they can be confusing until read through again. For the price: enjoy.

Mounting of the unit and set up was very straightforward. The outdoor unit is all one piece so you just have to attach it to the pole and mount it to something. The indoor unit connected to it very quickly. Setting up the indoor unit was quick and intuitive though I did read the instructions as I was doing it. It's been up and running for about 6 weeks and so far so good.
This weather station features wind speed and direction, rain gauge, temperature, and humidity on the outdoor sensor; and temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure on the indoor display. Overall it's pretty accurate though the temperature does seem to go off a little bit in bright sun but not as much as some other weather stations I've had. The rain and wind are probably the most accurate I've had. I have it set up for 24 hour rainfall readings. It seems as though it just resets at midnight rather than doing a rolling 24 hours which makes it a little less useful.
The display is really bright and clear. I have this installed next to a bedroom window that's in direct line of sight with the outdoor sensor to make sure there's a good signal. One of the features I like is that when it's plugged in you can have it set to turn off the display after about 15 seconds. You have to push the top center button to reactivate the display. You can also have it set to just have the display on continuously but that's not something I like in the bedroom. The outdoor sensor is located about 100 feet from the bedroom window and so far I've had absolutely no problems with connectivity.
It also offers temperature and wind speed alarms, neither of which I've used yet. I do see how they could be useful. Other minor but nice features are the weather forecast which seems to be as accurate as the local weather, dew point, and moon phase.
Overall, for the price it's a great value.
