I ordered these not really knowing what to expect. I've smelled smelling salts before many years ago and it was a strong ammonia smell. I got these to make me more alert on very long drives and they really do work with a strong ammonia/spearmint smell. I think the instructions say to put a capful of water in the bottle and shake it up then smell it. But I've found that you don't have to put a whole cap of water in to smell results, although you can and it might be even stronger. The important thing is to don't be scared, don't hold it away from your nose, you have to be close to reap the benefits. Hold it close, and take a whiff and it will get you going.

I use this pretty sparringly, basically only when I'm going for a PR or a new top set, but on days in a little fatigued or just not feeling it, this is great for one final boost. Mine didn't come with cotton in it but it seemed silly to return it over that, so just make sure you have cotton balls or something on hand just in case.
