I've made bread in this Dutch oven twice. Both loaves were wonderful, dark, crusty, fragrant. I may dedicate this oval baking vessel to bread, and get another for stews, etc.
But, this oval is HEAVY. Empty, it weighs about 18 pounds, It's big, and will easily accommodate a bread made from a kilo of bread flour. Big, long loaves.

I use this Dutch Oven to bake no-knead bread. The pictures tell it all. The loaf came out great, the inside of the pot was simply wiped with a damp paper towel. the third picture shows a 'bump' on the rim. This is not an imperfection, as it appears on many Dutch Ovens. This is outstanding and no-knead.

I bought this for making sourdough bread, and while it works for that I would have to double the recipe to make one that fits this oven. It works, but the loaf spreads out.
HOWEVER - for making roasts, stews, chili, etc. The traditional uses for these things it is a winner. I could have returned it but having it on hand that is not happening. The ability to use the lid as a stove top skillet is very clever of the designers and it is big enough in this role to be very useful.
Although I bought this in error for the intended use, I am pleased that I did so. Coming soon will be a batch of sourdough discards biscuits, in a large batch, because I have the room to do so.

I recently purchased this item for the 2nd time. I bought the 1st one from a shopping channel. Loved it! Great heat distribution. Effective nonstick surface. None of the maintenance usually needed with cast iron. The lid makes gorgeous crusty cornbread. Terrific Dutch oven. On the downside, this thing is HEAVY. And, you have to care for the nonstick coating. That's where I went wrong with the 1st one. Used too high a heat more than once and the nonstick was removed from a spot.
I looked at other Dutch ovens, but none impressed me. So, I bought this Zakarian oven again. This time I will avoid high heat.
