REMOTE CONTROL
Design
Padded/Rubber Feet When Set Flat
Gas Tank Capacity
Layout of Panel
Battery, Air Filter. Oil Access Panels
Change Oil Tube!
- Just pull it out, take cap off & Point Down
Size
Sounds Quiet
Bad
Remote Start Sequence
- Have to turn on start switch (Stays on All yhe time if you want to use temote. Drains internal battery. (Work arounds include rewire the switch to a panel in vehicle. In meanwhile, run pos/neg wire to its internal battery so it piggy backs off vehilcles solar batteries.
Remote Control Dangerous?
- one "tap" to the start button and unit begins start sequence (Starts). Problem is the remote is easily triggered when in your pocket with other keys that easily rub up and start unit. Should be a "long press" or a two button combo press. Very dangerous if unit starts up when not intended perhaps if remote in a backpack and something leans against backpack (other bags). Unit may start up and run in its stored state in a gen box, overheat unit it runs out of gas. You come back from the lake and there is the campervan on fire!
I see class action lawsuit here, so Champion. If your reading this, reward me by sending me a free replacement unit and a 50 foot 30 amp extension cord.
Remote- easily misplaced and lost. Should include two in box.
Weight? Okay, its 100lbs. But you get larger engine so its not peaking out all the time.
No exhaust extension kit.
- At least provide it as an accessory. I had to reach out to third party products without clear info on fitment info of exhaust port (dimensions, bolt sizes. Etc. Should be standardized and in manual.
No anchor points on all four upper corners for keeping unit from sliding around. If it had cargo strap anchor points, problem solved. Work around is to attach to the handles which dont provide full slide control and may not fit strap hooks.
Bluetooth or WiFi built in and respective app to monitor engine info (temp, hours. Volts, CO2 warnings)
No CO2 alarm?
Gas Guage:
Gas guage is clumsy, mechanical indicator on top, hard to read if slightly titled. Still have to watch inside when filling it with gas.
Back Lit instrument Panel:
No back light for sockets - have to fumble trying to plug in extension cords into holes which are all black hard to get it in if maneuvering from side when in a gen box.
Other colors?
I like the yellow/black theme, but hey, why not offer other colors yes there is black, but maybe some custom colors - Pink? Have fun with it.
Slide Out Trays:
Slide out trays designed for the footprint of your model. Now exploring 3rd part, hit and miss regarding fitment. Again, as an standard accessory item specifically designed for it.
Solar trickle charger port just to keep battery topped off. Work around, if "always on" is to use lighter socket with "car battery trickle solar kit."
Battery location:
- I wanted to remove the battery for its specs, but it required removing front instrument panel which ment to I had to remove the 100lb unit from inside the gen box. Pass.
Generally, a great unit.
If their was a one size smaller, with electric remote conttol start, 2500-3500 watt at 60lbs. Great.
Their were only two at time of purchase with remote, both were the larger systems (I think Westinghouse was the other.
Unit is quiet, and doesn't sound like tractor-trailer versions at truck stpps.
Especially love oil changing tube. Dah! Others require clumsy messy unscrew and pray style draining methods. So thanks for that!
Get it when price drops to sub $1,000 levels.

Super, super easy to start.

This generator is really heavy, and it needs two people to lift it up the stairs of the camper, to get it into the camper, to take it where you're headed. The remote start works beautifully. (You can purchase an additional remote online at the manufacture website). We are so grateful, that we can push a button and don't have to pull a cord anymore.
This is a nice generator, it is much quieter than the two generators that we were using in the past to try and achieve the same amount of power. When we removed the unit from the box, we got it all set up following the instructions. We took it to the backyard, and let it run for a while. We actually did that a couple times. Later we hooked it up to the camper, where we were so excited that we were able to run both the air conditioner and the microwave at the same time.
When we tested it at home, the outside temperature was 110°. Both the camper, and the generator were sitting in the shade of the house. We used our RV surge protector, with the accompanying app on our phone, and was able to see the amount of power that was being pulled from the generator. Everything looked really good during the two test runs that we did at home.
We currently take our camper up to the higher elevations where it is cooler to go camping. My husband contacted Champion, and they sent the correct jet for us to use for the elevation where we will be using it. They did not charge us for the part or the shipping cost. We had to install it ourselves, but it was pretty easy and did not take that long.
On our first camping trip with this generator, the outdoor temperature was 91°, and the generator was sitting in the direct sunshine. When we got back from hiking, my husband turned on the generator and then turned on the air conditioner. One of the kids wanted a snack, so they put something in the microwave, and the generator shut down when the microwave was turned on.
We are not sure if it was the power watchdog (RV surge protector) that is in between the generator and the camper that caused an issue. (We bought the surge protector a year ago when we purchased the camper). We don't know if the generator really could not handle the microwave, the air conditioner, and the hot temperatures outside. We were at an altitude of 6500 feet (we live at 2000 feet) We don't know if the new jet had something to do with it, or if sitting in the direct sunshine for hours, caused the generator to have a problem. We wonder if the generator needs to warm up by running for 15 or 20 minutes before we use the microwave in addition to the air conditioning.
So, for now I am giving this generator four stars instead of five, because we could not run the microwave with the air conditioner. We have decided that the current workaround, will be to shut off the air conditioner, run the microwave for a few minutes, and then turn the air conditioner back on. If after a lot more testing of things, in new situations, we figure out that it was not the generator itself, I will change my review and put back on one star. We really do like this generator, it functions better than the other ones that we had, and starting is so easy and convenient.
