Comfortable But Flattening

First, this is a beautifully designed Japanese Futon (Shikibuton). It's soft, comfortable, & well made with reversible sides, one soft, warm, fleece side for the winter & the other more of a dry & a bit rougher feeling (not in a bad way; ordinary) for the summer.
I let the futon air out for a day and then I slept amazingly. I've had this futon for a week and a half now & the first couple nights was some of the best sleep I've ever had. Unfortunately, after those days (about a week), I felt like the futon was getting flat. I've rotated it & it's been 3 days & this end feels like it's getting flat too. I felt it from underneath the futon to where I'm sitting at and it feels like it's depth is ~0.5 inches - ~1 inch. Comparing this to the way the product is at 4 inches shows a major difference. It feels like it's flattened which makes it hard & uncomfortable to sit on.
I also wished this Japanese Futon came with a set of instructions on how to care for it so that it remains comfortable & does not flatten.

My Dobermans dog bed is thicker, I weights about 130lbs and bought to put in my hummer for a long road trip (24 hours almost cross country) in case I needed to pull over and sleep for a few hours, after reading car air mattress reviews I didn't want to get a faulty one that didn't hold air so I bought this to be safe, grabbed a throw blanket and a few pillows"¦it's about 1.5-2" think, I'm not a heavy person and I can feel the hardness under it"¦maybe that's because I'm a side sleeper? If you "half" it still much more comfortable however most people aren't as short or small as me so I'm my opinion the only way to make this semi comfortable is to buy 2 and stack them which I won't do as that seems too expensive for an auto matters that won't get much use

This is a decent shiki button, I ordered black in twin and put a twin fitted sheet on it. You have to fold it up during the day to prevent mold, and be sure to fluff it up.
I slept pretty decently on it, I definitely need to adjust. No pain on my back.
Overall I am satisfied, and plan to eventually use this in my truck to sleep in on road trips.
My only complaint is a slight chemical smell, it's not overbearing thankfully. I'm hoping it fades away.
