I a good knife and cutting board so I wasn't sure I needed this but yikes, it turns out I did. I used it to thinly slice cucumbers which with a knife takes a while. I love the fact that I can't get my fingers anywhere near the blade.

This product works great for slicing potatoes - much, MUCH faster than slicing them by hand. I've had other slicers in the past, and this one is the best in my opinion: its quite sturdy and it seems extremely safe to use. My complaints would be fairly minor: the bin that goes under the slicer is a bit small, so when you're slicing items they frequently get flung onto the counter, and it's a bit hard to clean the tiny blades used in chopping mode, even with the included tiny brush. Overall, though, I consider those fairly small compared to the benefits.
It's probably not worth getting out, setting up and then cleaning for something like just chopping up a single onion, but if you want to thinly slice 5lbs of potatoes to make something scalloped potatoes, though, it's a huge time saver.

I try to eat a cucumber every day for fiber, H2O and vitamins. It's an easy way for me to increase my veggies. I don't have knife skills so this chopper allows me to slice a cucumber in 15 seconds. It's safer than my old mandolin slicer and easy to clean. It is my favorite new kitchen gadget and I use it every day.
