If looking to gift a woodworker or aspiring young artisan something special-This Is IT! The handles are beautifully crafted- each one felt specially picked, like you do when hand making your own. Beautiful grain pattern, but most importantly they fit in my hand perfectly. Yes I'm a female woodworker, but most prefer handles that grip well and these do that. The blades are razor sharp and carve out wood super easy (use safely). Each tip shape is perfect, level and even from one side to other. I've bought high end tools that didn't impress me any where close to how this set has. Best purchase I've received, and I'm extremely happy with craftsmanship. This is by far the best Chisel set on Amazon I have bought. If your on the fence, I'd highly recommend this. I will upload a video showing how easily they glide through wood just to show these perform.

The media could not be loaded. The cocktail spoon in the vid was carved with an axe, a small hook knife, and this $10 Beavercraft 2" inch straight edged knife. I won the knife in an Insta giveaway, and I was interested in it as a low-cost entry level knife for students and friends who are just starting out. Here's what I noticed: the steel is stamped rather than forged, and the handle is an un-nuanced, machined piece of hardwood - neither of those descriptions matter at all to how well the knife functions! The handle is comfortable enough and easily customizable( if you have another knife), and the blade has a fairly standard Scandi bevel and comes sharp enough to shave the hair on my arm, though I did strop it before use. The short and straight blade, while not ideal for sweeping cuts ( like the kinds made on the back of wider spoon bowls, or long hogging cuts, or the tight curves usually worked by the tip and taper of a sloyd knife, handled those jobs on this spoon more than well enough. Where it excelled was in the straight push and pull cuts I use to make long, straight, and relatively narrow facets and chamfers - you just brace the work piece, set the bevel, and go. The straight profile resists the tendency I have with my sloyd to sweep and tilt, so it's design actually helps me keep my facets flat and even.
This knife will not replace my longer sloyd knife, nor will it or should it replace the handmade tools I have from ultra-skilled blacksmiths/craftsmen/artisans. If you can afford the cost and the wait time for high level handmade tools, do it! They work beautifully, they're inspirational to see and hold, and purchasing them supports the kind of dedicated craftspeople from whom these carving traditions, forms, etc. arose. You'll pass those sorts of tools on to your kids.
This is not one of those, but it works very well, can be had quickly and cheaply, and might (as it did for me) even teach you a few things.

These are good quality tools and arrive well packaged and very sharp. They hold an edge well but it's always better to strop all tools often to keep a fine edge at all times. They are easy to hold and guide when carving but I suggest always using a safety glove or finger tape in case of a slip.

These knives are extremely sharp! Cut through leather like butter. I have started to carve a walking stick, the design is a snake wrapped around the stick. This requires a lot of carving out the spaces between the snake body. These knives feel really good in your hand and you can control the blade with ease. The walking stick is made of ponderosa pine from a forest fire which is easy to carve with these knives. The blades have not dulled at all. The case is nice leather which protects the knives and you from the knives.

I have purchased several beaver craft tools and even won a knife and i have yet to get one I wasn't happy with. Quality tools at a reasonable price .
