I caught this on sale for $200 less than normal.
It was easy to install on my Hobie PA 14 Kayak.
Using two 12v 50ah LiFePo4 batteries wired in series (to get the required 24 volts) the
motor will push my Kayak along at 5mph top speed.
I have yet to exhaust the batteries but I do also peddle and paddle some when fishing.
Did not hook up the steering and have it pined straight ahead and use the Kayak rudder to turn.
Works OK but for tight turns you would need to steer the motor.
I choose this over the other more powerful unit because I did not want to be restricted to their battery pack and wanted to be able to replace them if they failed.

The only two things I would have Newport Vessels change would be 1) to have bearings at top and bottom of motor shaft housing to assist with the steering because of the amount of resistance/pressure that the powerful motor produces at anything above 40% throttle, 2) one more hole to allow me to trim the stern up and not down int the water. All in all, I'll be using this for years and years, I love it.

The motor works great! I have no complaints, the issue I have is that the throttle control has no real stop when you go from forward to reverse, no click no indent absolutely nothing that helps you identify that you have passed the Neutral on the controller. I have my motor hooked up to a Hobie PA14 and that little motor moves that yak at 4.8 mph in the ocean. Fantastic little motor.

Great product. Like it very much on my Hobi ProAngler 12. Great Newport Vessels company service, but sadly they don't ship outside US. Amazon is the great solution to buy it outside US.
Note (that's why I put 4 stars only): not pleasant experience with Locking Pin which supposed to keep motor stady, when connection to kayak steering system is not used - sometimes on waves more than 12 inches the Locking Pin is getting losed and the motor starts steering itself in one direction and requires to be set again. Newport Vessels must revise and fix this issue.
