Most inexpensive stand mixers are useless, in my opinion. You're better off with a decent blender plus a decent egg-beater, and kneading your dough by hand. The mixers are not powerful and heavy enough to be worth the money or counter space.
KitchenAid, on the other hand, makes very useful products at a high price. This one is just as good and the price is much lower. It's not as heavy as a KitchenAid, which makes it a bit easier to move around, but also more prone to vibration. I found the settings and accessories somewhat more intuitive and up-to-date. But the main point is it has the power and design to do useful kitchen work.
