Great equipment - support is terrible!
Jake W.✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 15, 2024
Edit#2 Its been 2 months since I got this rower. I decided to move my overall rating to 4 stars (5 would be with support not keeping me on hold for a month). I have no issues since we closed the ticket. Exercise almost daily with no issues.

Overall its a great piece of equipment. It can deliver a proper challenge and there is plenty of trainings accessible via table screen attached.
And screen is where I have a problem with. It freezes, goes black, interface get stuck, its unresponsive"¦ I created support tickets on ifit and Nordictrack portal - almost month with ZERO response. I hard reset and follow steps from guides with no issues. Still considering return of this item - which is shame because I love to workout on it. But I can spend $300 with same functionality. With a heavy heart but it is disappointing platform.

Update: couple days after previous (above) was posted ifit support representative reached out to me. Instructions to follow took my 30 seconds to follow but since then I was been to complete every training without interruption. Love my rower and my daily workout.
Few issues but overall a fantastic experience!

I've been using this machine for about 2 months now and while I would like to leave it a 5 star review, there are just a few issues that prevent me from doing so. Overall, yes, I would recommend this product. I have a personal gym in my home with 3 primary pieces of cardio equipment... this ergometer (rower), a Peloton bike, and NordicTrack treadmill. I average 5 days of cardio a week and since purchasing this item, I have chosen to use it for at least 75% of my workouts. The Peloton will likely be sold soon as it just doesn't come close to the total body aspect of the rower and hasn't been touched since it arrived.

For starters, the machine arrived with a damaged monitor input cable. One of the cables would not go all the way into the input so I had to get creative and alter the connection... then tape the cable in place so it wouldn't continually disconnect and cause the screen/software to reset while in a workout.

Customer service was great here and sent out a new cable immediately but due to high demand, it took about 6 weeks to show up. If I was unable to rig a repair, no doubt I would have been furious as the machine was unusable without the repair or new cable. In addition to this problem, a clicking sound has recently appeared when the machine is in use (at the wheel, not the monitor). Hopefully this isn't an issue down the road but for the time being I have just remained aware and watch to make sure it doesn't get worse.

The only other problem I have is with the iFit software. I would rate iFit at a 3.0 as they really don't have NEARLY the amount of videos they claim for the exercise equipment. I have a NordicTrack treadmill and have used iFit in the past. When I spoke with customer service, they said they had something like 900+ videos (I asked specifically for rowing videos related to the equipment) but there is nowhere even close to a quarter of this. I haven't counted but I would be surprised if there were even 150 rowing videos.

Not necessarily a deal breaker if I had to do it all over again BUT to make matters worse, they don't have a way to filter out the videos by rowing machine!! With a dozen or so different filters like "type, duration, coach, additional equipment..." they do not include perhaps the most important one... the actual rower itself!! lol So you get floor workouts, TEDtalk videos, yoga, stretching, etc all showing up in the browse area while trying to find a dang rowing workout! The way they have the videos set up is so poorly done that I can't help but think it was intentional so as to make it very difficult to actually see how few rowing videos they actually have... to "pad the numbers". Scrolling through all these videos to try and find rowing workouts is by far the worst part of this machine!!

Also a minor gripe with the music. Unlike every other fitness app I have used (Peloton/Echelon), iFit does not play actual songs during the workouts. It is stock music that doesn't help provide that extra push you can often get from some heart pumping tunes.

Overall this is a really solid machine and my experience with ICON customer service (going back 8 years) has always been great. I did knock a star off for the QC issues I had upon arrival as well as the iFit issues. If iFit could step up their game with more quality content and filters (the reason most of us buy these interconnected machines), their customer base would grow considerably IMO... as iFit typically seems to be the number one complaint for many ICON fitness connected machines.

Side note - The Concept 2 is the gold standard in ergometers but with a limited interface and lack of connected fitness software/workouts, it just wasn't really what I was looking for. You can pair this device with a phone/tablet and use CityRowGo, HydroRow, iFit and other apps that have rowing classes so if you are looking for the best overall machine and more flexibility with which service you use... that may be a better option for you. That said, I'm glad I went with the RW900 - just turn it on and go!

I have advanced osteoarthritis in my knees, and need a low impact, high energy workout. My full-time job is sitting at a computer (at home), so when the gym closed due to the pandemic, my arthritis worsened to where it was painful to walk. I've never been the type to workout at home, always needing the discipline of a class or gym, but that all changed in June when we bought our NordicTrack RW900 Rower!!

It was easy for my husband to assemble, and even easier to get started with the iFit videos. The rower itself is very very smooth and sturdy. I've been on less expensive rowers and spin bikes that hurt my joints due to the build of the equipment, or have that slight wobble. I have had no joint issues with our NordicTrack, even with increasing the resistance. I do recommend getting the iFit heart monitor. If you are like me, I prefer knowing which zone I am in during a workout. This rower had definitely boosted my fitness while enjoying a good workout.
The iFit videos are excellent and make my workouts zip by! I especially enjoy rowing with Alex Gregory and James Stephenson -- the views, their 'coaching' and motivating shout outs get me working harder. Check them out!

My only suggestion would be to have a 'power off' button on the monitor, rather than unplugging it each time (to prevent shadowing on the screen). In the beginning, it would be slow to boot up each time, but now after installing a couple of updates, it is much quicker. Just a concern with the daily unplugging\plugging that the plug-in will get worn\damaged.

All in all tho, the NordicTrack rower is definitely the complete package! Love it!
Excellent Results with Row and I-fit !

I started using the Row machine April 18. It is June 27 and I have lost 11lbs and feel great! I row 5 days a week because it is fun with so many different workouts on I-Fit. I generally do not care for long reviews so bottom line this is a product that lives up to all expectations. Here are details:

I started out slow. Physical set up was easy if you read the directions. Yes, I had to call tech support to get my system updated but they were great and I was only on hold for about 20 minutes. I could gripe about the initial internet set up since I had the machine in the basement and there was a weak signal. It took me a day or two to figure out a solution. I use my wifi jet pack to give me a strong signal and after my call to tech support I have had zero issues in my 50+ workouts. In other words if you have a good internet signal there are no issues to speak of. If your internet is weak you may have I-fit issues and you need the I-Fit on the big screen to make the row machine experience work.
So how about the machine. Row is smooth and easy to use screen is awesome. My wife was new to the Machine and after a few of the I-Fit beginner Row programs she was also off to the races. We have separate accounts under the one I-Fit membership. This is really important as I-Fit work outs are designed to have resistance match the use profile for height, weight, sex etc.
Ok now I am going to rave a bit. I-Fit is amazing on the machine. The workouts give you the choice of just Rowing or hitting the floor mat for body weight exercises. You can focus on your core, strength, cardio, endurance you name it and there is a program for it. Once you browse the trainers and workouts you can add them to your favorites so you can find them right away on the screen. A lot of the trainers ( I have my favorites and so does my wife) have series so there are between 5 and 10 workouts in the series that you can do to progressively challenge yourself.
Then the machine tracks all your workouts and captures all your data so you can see what you have accomplished. You can also find workouts as short as 10 minutes and as long as an hour. The trainers also are doing workouts designed for the rower and they get creative using the machine for stretching and isolation exercises. You can see in my picture I have space and put the machine on my sons hockey tiles. You do not have to have that and the machine does store well. You do need some space to do some of the floor exercises where you use the sliding seat. I-Fit has an app on your phone and so when I went on vacation i switched to programs that did not use the Row machine and found so many awesome ones that I still use them. I recommend the following I-Fit trainers -Gideon Akande, Anja Garcia, hannah Eden, Alex Silver Fagen,Desmond Nanchengwa & John Peel. I am sure you find the ones that motivate you! Best way to make Covid not turn me into a blob! Have fun!
Great Rower, iFIT keeps it exciting,

Like many people when the pandemic changed my daily routine to staying home as much as possible, I needed to find a way to continue my exercise routine. As a background I went to Orangetheory Fitness 4-5 times a week, and over the last year have gotten great results due to the nature of the workout. I decided on the rower based on what I enjoyed doing in the classes, and the fact that it offers a total body workout.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the rower. It feels very sturdy and has held up well thus far in a short period of time. While the monitor adds a hefty amount, I love how it functions alongside the rower. It adds a "peloton like" feel to the classes, which include a year iFIT family membership. In it, there are a wide array of classes to suit your time or exercise preference. Some classes are definitely more intense than others. iFIT is where the machine really shines, as it offers the atmosphere of group fitness in the comfort of your own home. There are plenty of adjustments to make the rower more or less difficult to row on as well. You can adjust the airflow or the magnetic resistance.

While I would recommend this machine as a pure rower, where it falls short is for users to create their own workouts. It does not come with a user manual, and I have not found a way to set programs for certain workouts (i.e. timed 2000M row or the like). When you go in manual start mode, you basically row at your pace with no goal in sight. This is my least favorite part of the rower, as other machines like the water rower, or the Concept 2 with the appropriate monitors offer the ability to customize your own workout program.

Overall, this is a great machine. If you want the online class experience, and a quality rower, you'll probably like the nordictrack RW900. If cost is a concern, they do offer an RW500 model with a separate tablet, which is significantly cheaper. If you're a rowing enthusiast, you'll probably be left wanting more due to the lack of customizations to do your own workout. Nonetheless, I love the machine, because I love doing the iFIT classes.
