Good Word Processing Software

I have used WP for 20+ years and have updated it on a regular basis (however, not every time a new version is introduced). My last upgrade was X9 and now 21; so far I haven't seen major changes of what I use in the program. I also have Word on my computer but WP is my "go to" program for word processing.

Essential software for serious writers

Word is flawed from basic design up. Ribbons? Really? Not to mention the underlying concept -- applying format to blocks of text. WordPerfect on the other hand uses more of an HTML system -- where you can fully control formatting through insertion points that are visible.

Reveal codes allows complete control of formatting. Word does not.

Footnotes, endnotes, and other essential parts of serious writing are ridiculously easy in WordPerfect.

There is a reason why law firms, law schools, and courts held on to this for so long, and in fact some still do.

Only flaw: NO MAC VERSION. Need to have two computers, Mac for most things, PC for writing.

templates and macros

It's necessary to ridconfigure the work-screen to one's favorites each time you upgrade. That means saving the template and macros from the preceding version, and then finding the correct way to re-install them. Very inconvenient!

My wife and have been using WP since the 80's. She as a paralegal and I as an engineer. Two of WP's best features are "reveal codes" and tables. With reveal codes you can quickly find that pesky font change in the middle of a paragraph, etc. Tables allows you to create excel type spreadsheets inside WP. No linking to another spreadsheet. I use both programs regularly but preferer WP

I have been using Word Perfect products almost since day one. Once you use Reveal Codes in WP you will never want to be without them. WP was one of the first to have common sense short cut keys.
Quattro Pro is easy to use. Very easy to write formulas for and very easy to trouble shoot.
Would I ever switch to a MicroSoft product. Not A Chance.
I did not add any stars for Tech Support as I have never used Tech Support. There was never a need for it.
